I don't think it is going to happen.

Memphis looks like the best candidate to move. Look at a map it is way out there in the East. They pretty much suck in the West and could benefit from a move to a much softer conference.

Houston just doesn't seem likely to be the front runner. I would put Memphis and New Orleans ahead of us.

Why would ANY team move to the east??

    1) we have 15 teams in each conference, 5 in each division
    2) Obviously Seattle is in the Western Conference
-if Seattle Switches to OKL then they will just switch divisions inside the WESTERN CONFERENCE
    3) the realignment would occur ONLY in the west

if a team goes to the east, the west would have 14 teams and the east would have 16 teams.

    this will not happen.

    exactly.

besides, a move to the east for the rockets would be - to quote widespread panic - a bad move of a lifetime.

The league and Les would not want Dallas, SA, and Houston not to be in the same division rivalry wise and business wise. Les would never want to move out from the same division of the other 2 if he's thinking business. My best guess is that if the Sonics move to OKC they'll still be in the Northwest division.

It's been the Doors for quite awhile.

But.....with the maturation of the Cavs/Lebron and the young Bulls the East figures to be much improved moving forward.Toss in Bahstan and then a host of young teams... this might be a smart basketball/business move for Les.
We still would have the truth at the 5 and in the East which lacks size......well,titles and $$$$.

Memphis and New Orleans are further east than Houston.

No sense at all!! Why would the Rockets want to run away from competition? If you are the best of the best then you are truly the Champion.
Oklahoma Sonics must pay the price of their location and stay in their same Division!! D.Yetti S. :p

There's no point in moving to the east when you have teams like Memphis and New Orleans more east of us.

and plus, I love playing the mavs and spurs 4 times a year :)

Sonics moving from Seattle to OKC doesn't even warrant a change of divisions, much less conferences. I thought it was dumb of Feigen to even mention it. If OKC was in the SW division, someone like San Antonio would have to go the Pacific. Or, someone like Memphis would have to go to the EC, with someone like Milwaukee joining the NW division in the WC. Nonsense.

Generalizing, it would be a shame for Houston to leave its the WC. With rivalries against San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, etc, we'd instead meet in the playoffs teams like Cleveland and Detroit. Who cares about that matchup?

I dont understand why the league would need to change anything. The sonics are already in the west . Is it just because the soncis would have to change to the southwest instead of the pacific?

It's not like the Seahawks had a choice...and they were originally in the NFC West when they started in the 70's.

I don't think anyone is moving if/when Seattle becomes OKC. Why create an unbalanced schedule (a la MLB) if you don't need to? OKC fans will just have to watch a lot of late games. There is no logical team to replace them in the Northwest.

The article states that Les is the one with pull wanting to go East. It would be LESs streesful ;) for him to make the playoffs every year.

New Orleans just seems like an East team to me, but do they want to go East and if they do do they have the pull Les does, assuming Les wants that?

Thats right the Seahawks were in the NFC to start with. I didn`t remember that....thanks. I live in/near Seattle, not really a fan of them but at least they used to have to fight their arses off to make the playoffs, now they pretty much don`t even need to play the season to get in. Makes me feel better about the Seahawks now.

I think the arthur was saying it was Les` idea to move, and why not? Maybe he thinks an all Texas Finals every year would make money too. Maybe something to do with Yao and chinese media time zones? I am not sure what a couple hours either way would make. Maybe the leader of China wants to watch the game at 11:00 pm instead of 1:00 am?
