It was Bonzi effect.

A lot of fans thought Rockets needed help and SF could help Rockets somehow.

    anyways,

"We want Steve" > "Rafer is enough".

i heard that and all i could think was "NOOO". I thought "we want turnovers" would be a better chant :)

If the rockets put portland away more convincingly then fine, put him in. But the rockets still show that lack of putting teams away in a strong manner.

He will get his chance but patience is a virtue and he just needs to work hard and support the team.

I'm not going to lie. When I heard the chants on NBA TV, I thought they were referring to Steve Novak.

There was a reason that we got rid of him for tmac in the first place... I'd rather skin my own you know what then to have steve in the lineup...

I wouldn't worry guys because pretty soon Rafer aka the modern day reincarnation of Winston Garland will be phased out of the starting lineup in favor of Steve.

I think it's more than a coincidence that Houston, against the Lakers and Jazz, stunk it up early until Rafer came out of the game and that's when things picked up.

I don't think we can keep spotting average to good teams a 10 point lead and expect to comeback every night, thus Rafer must be benched or traded.

I'm sure opposing pgs would disagree.

Maybe we can trade Rafer for the Professor or Hot Sauce.

no we got rid of steve b/c it's an opportunity to get a once in a lifetime kind of player.

you're trading a decent all-star for a superstar who was the best at that time. that trade was made not b/c of steve, but b/c of tracy.

Padgett definitely was. I screwed up with Wesley though, no doubt. They traded Jackson for him the year Steve left.

This is something Francis' fans will never want to address and will continue to ignore.

Not to mention that those other teams were BAD teams, and they still couldn't wait to get rid of him. There is a reason for that, isn't there?

It's funny to see how much of an effect 'the Franchise' has with fans, you either lovem unconditionally or hatem.

There is a reason he's getting paid practically the minimum to play here and can't even crack the rotation over Luther freaking Head. And you can't blame Gundy for it this time, although I'm sure there are a lot on this board that wish they could lol. :D

The reason is because this 'aint your daddy's Franchise'...unfortunately.

Care to explain why you think Rick Adelman keeps playing Alston?

Or are you just going to regurgitate the same "reafer sucks" line and crap up the quality of discussion on the board?

RA continues to play rafer alston because
1. He is the most familiar with the starting five, due to his playing with them for the past 2 years
2. He picked up the offense better than Francis, but that does not mean that he is better than Francis.
Thank you by the way for telling me my comments "crap up the quality of discussion on the board", when we have members who spew out the most useless facts and bull****. The pure steve hate isn't "crap" when he has done nothing to ruin the chemistry of the team. You sir should receive a medal

Rick should send Steve into the stands and find out what the fans want with him.

Nothing wrong with the chant, and also nothing wrong with Steve not playing.

Sure from a personal sentimental wish standpoint I would love to have seen Steve get at least a little playing time.

But I definitely understand why he didn't.

You just explained perfectly why Rockets should continue starting Rafer at PG over James and... er Francis.

I thought fans of a team were more about TEAM support rather then a certain-player-only-support-not-caring-if-it-hurts-the-team. Is that the definition of the ?-Only-Fan (eg, YOF, TOF).

By your logic, I don't care if Steve "better" then Rafer (whatever that means... 1v1 Basketball? Penetration ability?) Why does it matter if Steve can jump higher, drive faster, weigh heavier or is "better" then Rafer? Rafer starting = Rockets winning more games hence I want Rafer to start every game and continue playing as a core member of last years best +/- 5-Unit Squad. Thank god we have a bench this year so your "Reafer" won't have to shoot those floaters and contested 3s that you think he "chooses" and "loves" bricking; But rather let Mike James take those shots.

Steve himself doesn't stir "crap", the chanting had the potential to stir "crap" and fans continuing to hope Rafer falls off the earth the next day so that Steve will take his starting job is stirring "crap". Such a scenario is hurtful to the Rockets winnings, but nevertheless will probably satisfy your Stevie-love, then we'll probably move on to blame someone els when the Rockets aren't winning like it was supposed to.

Hate is too strong a word to use, I don't believe anyone actually dislikes him on the board, people are just increasingly aware (and bewilded) by his value (lack of) and inability to contribute signicantly. And the Stevie fans are just completely stunned that their no.3 in their supposed new Rockets big "3" ends up not even in the rotation. In your own words, GET OVER IT, Rafer is the starter and his going to keep it until people with more more authority and knowledge (therefore will NOT) changes it.
