Home crowd for tonight's game should be ashamed of themselves!

I was at the game tonight and couldn't have been more ashamed of the home crowd.

Six minutes left in a game and the Rockets up 12, the game is still in doubt considering how fast teams can make a run in this league, and a quarter of the freaking crowd walked out the door. Another third started yelling "We want Steve!"

Around the 4 minute mark and the Rockets up by 8, another quarter of people decided to leave while more people chanted for Francis to play.

Again at the 1:30-2 minute mark, half of the remaining crowd left as well.

I just don't get the "fans" in this town. Here it is, OPENING HOME GAME of a team with a ton of promise and off to a 2-0 start after beating a very good team on the road in one of the toughest places to play, and people decide that beating traffic is more important despite the team still trying to put a game away.

But, the chants for Francis were dowrnright ridiculous!!!!

I mean, give me a break. The guy is not in the rotation, and is so for good reason, and you don't just throw him out there while the Rockets were fighting and clawing trying to keep the Blazers from making a comeback. Portland was in the midst of a 34 point qtr and cut the lead down to 8. That is not a time to put guys into the game who are NOT IN THE ROTATION.

What makes the chanting even more laughable is the fact they were doing so as Mike James was out there knocking down big shots to maintain the lead.

I mean, is this what we are going to have to deal with all year long? Are we going to have to listen to home crowd after home crowd chanting for Francis to play even though the team is winning?

Yea, great home court advantage!

It's not just Houston I think. People did the same thing with the Laker's game and they missed one hell of an ending.

I don't understand why fans pay to watch the game and then don't want to wait until the end of the game to leave. That's r****ded.

LOL!!! No, I'm not but I did hear her on the way home. My wife and I were talking about all of this even before we left the arena. So, when she did come on, we were happy to hear it from someone else, especially after all 4 previous calls were complaining about them not playig Steve.

I thought I saw a lot of empty seats near the court as well. Was that really the case?

By contrast, I watched Boston's home opener against the Wizards and that place was going NUTS. It looked like the NBA finals. And I think I saw Garnett frothing at the mouth at one point from the bench.

I think it's great to show support for a player on the Rockets but the man isn't playing for a number of reasons. One of them is being out of shape. Roy was torching our guards in the 2nd half pretty bad. I doubt people want to see a player with love handles huffing and puffing to try and keep in front of his defensive assignment. There's no conspiracy against the man to keep him from playing. He's pretty much done this to himself and has to work himself back in game shape. Maybe in a month he'll see the light of day on an NBA court, and when it happens I'll be happy for him because that means the Rockets just became that much deeper a team.

I agree with you 100%. That ridiculous steve chant was disgraceful and made me ashamed to be a rockets fan.

exactly. the atmosphere from the boston home opener was ridiculous. i wish the TC can be like that all the time. they started chanting defense LOUD AS HELL when the wiz got the ball after winning the tip.

our fans chanted "we want steve" louder than defense. that's sad.

Yea, I mean I know it's kind of common practice amongst fans in certain cities but come on.

If there is one night to stay and cheer a win to the very end during the regular season, wouldn't the first home game be it? I guess that part just bugged me more tonight because of that reason.

first off, it's not going to help if you complain about it here

all that matters is do your part, stay till the end of the game, and if you did, good. This is how our fans are, its just how it is.

I complained about the fans not being there, what did i do? Get peoples from here together and show people out there they are real fans, along with buying season tickets.

About the Steve chant, I admit, it was pretty weird to hear it going, but at the same time, it was all good fun. Did we boo when the game ended? Nope, that tells you right there, we're not like LA booing their only superstar they bought tickets for the game in the first place....

The key is that Adelman, as a team coach, should take care of those subtle stuff... in team or his words to the public.

I don't expect any discordant note will ruin our team chemistry, anyways.

SF is over 30+ yrs, right? then I'd take he has mentally grown up and know how to earn his mins.

F ans just wanted to show Steve some love. I thought the fans leaving was bad, though..

I will say the Rowdies have a way to go if they want to rival last year.

    Yea, you're right. Good point.

I guess I was just venting a little. The chants started right by me in the upper tier and I couldn't believe what i was hearing under the circumstances. I mean, if it was a blowout I could understand it better. But, they were still trying to hold off a comeback effort.

The fans leaving always has bugged me, but again, the fact they left as early as they did without being a blowout just kind of ticked me off.

I was at the game tonight and have been attending lots of games the past few years and thought the crowd was awesome for the opening ceremonies in that it was packed for the tipoff, something that didn't even happen for the Jazz series. There was an electric/buzz feeling in the crowd I haven't sensed in years, considering we were playing the Blazers.

I generally get upset when fans leave early (I stayed til the end as always!)but in all fairness tonights game was over in the first qtr. Portland never seriously threatened and it felt like one those games the Rox had NO chance of losing.

Can't wait for the next game I have tix for!
