anyone here bet on sports? football, basketball and baseball is mainly what i'm talking about, not so much the racetrack stuff. do you use a certain website that's good/use a bookie/go to vegas? any betting tips or strategies you use? any crazy stories you'd like to share? when i was a freshman in college back in 2002, i had money on the mavericks to win outright as underdogs in LA against the lakers. anyone remember this game? it was on national tv. anyway, i was watching, and i was pretty confident because the mavs built up a 30 point lead, and i thought it was in the bag. i turned off the game in the 3rd quarter and played xbox for a while, and when i turned the game back on, it was the 4th quarter and it was a single digit game. i was literally speechless. the lakers ended up scoring 44 in the 4th and won the game, and that's what made me stop betting on sports. damn mavs. i've also lost a spread because jamal crawford hit a 3 pointer from beyond half court at the end of a game even though his team (the bulls back then) were losing by plenty.
IT IS CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN AT PRO SPORTS. They do screw up lines here and there but for the most part good luck. If you think you "know" who is gonna win take the guess work out and bet money lines. You can make a killing in college BB because there are like 360 teams and if you do your homework you will know more than the odd's makers. College football is a hell of alot easier than the NFL because 119 teams vs 32 but college bb is where the money is. E-mail me through this board if you need a place to bet.
I know betting heightens the vicarious excitement and paying for fun is a perfectly legitimate use of your discretionary income, but, you can never account for randomness. I watch a lot of sports and I can attest that a large percentage of games are determined by turnovers and penalties and some more by injuries. (my favorite team is plagued by Flozell "Flags" Adams, first and 20 is a guaranteed 3 & out) So have fun, but I will never understand the 'risk everything' betting some people do. I guess they have a self destructive bent. For me, the pain of losing always outweighs any exhilaration I get from winning.
