The ball is coming off the rim at a far different angle than a normal miss. It's a free for all at that point. In such situations the best thing to do is try to tip the ball up but away from the rim(not towards the 3pt line)
I was just bringing up this one play...if you want to label it "Yao Hating" and analyze every other facet then so be it. If you think this thread is pointless and don't care then DON'T post in this thread. Otherwise the fact is ..go back and look again...on this board ..on this (what I consider the biggest play) Yao was lackluster both hands on knees..and he got owned by Kwame Brown. It concerns me nonetheless.
Your thread's title is too negative for someone who pulled 12 rbs. That's what people are saying. People who think this thread is pointless have to reply to let you know how pathetic your thread is. They don't want this board flooded with this kind of threads. How about "Yao should focus more on the last rebound" I think he OWNED everybody last night in terms of rbs.
The dude gave us 25/12/3/3 last night and threads popping up saying "he got owned on the board last night" and a tall dude like that shouldn't take jumpers...ect. Jeez...I swear, if he gave us 40/20/10...people will find other ways to complain
Yao played a great game yesterday. yes he should have boxed out better on that last play but you know what he has a whole season to learn from his mistakes in this new system.
Kobe got owned by Bonzi stripping his ball. T-mac got owned by whoever lakers made him a big TO in crunch time. Nobady should complain those ESPN/TNT guys used to call Yao softie. Even rox fans can not stand for a "mistake" by Yao.
Is very common these days when some posters started a new thread bashing Yao followed by saying they LOVE Yao blah blah blah. Yao is not superman. He cant grab every single rebounds out there. Even superman Shaq cant do it. So what do u expect yao to do when Kobe intentionally miss the free throw and is a long rebound there was no way yao who was right under the basket can grab it!
This thread is the equal to someone starting a Kobe is not clutch thread. He had the rebound in his hands on the last play from two feet away and he let a tiny little PG come in and knock it away from him. If he was clutch he would have grabbed the ball and scored. Forget the points he scored and the big shots he made to make it close, lets only focus on the one play where he got owned by Rafer Alston. The stupidity of this argument rivals yours, and thats why people are bashing you. Plus you picked a play that had no impact on the game. If Kwame had gotten the board and scored, then maybe you make the argument. What if Kobe's shot missed long and to the left and Yao being shoved by Kwame allowed him to grab the rebound, would it then have been great positioning by Yao?
Yao is not that athletic: smart, skilled, big.....not that athletic. Hakeem was big and quick, like a cat. Amare is more Hakeem-like, but Yao is Yao. Most players in the NBA react much more quickly than Yao does, just the way it is. But, Yao could use his size more effectively. His rear should block out two or three players.
You do have a valid point, but the title is so misleading that makes people wondering what kinda crack ur on.
it's not the first time yao missed key rebounds due to slow reaction. he's what he is, a good rebounder but not great. it's his 6th season already and I tought people would have learnt to accept that.
You nailed it. The thread starter had some good points. But he throws up an inflammatory title and then complains about people not taking the time to carefully analyze his arguments. If you wanted reasonable analysis, use a reasonable title.
I don't think the OP is a hater. He has just picked a very inappropriate thread title. That's all. If you really want to see how a Yao hater is like, just do a search for rofflesaurus's posts. This rofflesaurus is a certified Yao hater. In the past, 90% of his posts are Yao bashing. Having been exposed by a few people, he has started to talk more about the other Rockets players lately in order to make himself less obvious.
We all know Yao isn't a dominant rebounder or a dominant defensive player. I don't really think this deserves a thread of it's own. As a semi-disclaimer: Yao is a good rebounder.. just not a dominant one who can rebound outside his area and/or has amazing reaction time.
