On ESPN they said the deal would look like this: Chicago gets: Kobe Kings get: Ben Gordon and PJ Brown Lakers get: Ben Wallace and Ron Artest Apparently the deal fell through though.
Good thing it fell thru. Kings get jobbed bad in that deal. Actually the only one that would've won is Kobe.
kings didn't get robbed. Sure artest >ben, but ben has mucho smaller contract, has good character and PJ = expiring contract. Lakers would be getting robbed. Kobe for Artest and Ben Wallace???? Ben Wallace = garbage, and couldn't work in triangle, and artest is a highly paid roll player.
Ben doesn't have a much smaller contract. He's actually on a max contract or something very close to that. He makes almost twice as much compared to Artest. Ben's due $15,500 this year and Artest is due $7,800 and Ben's contract is for a year or two longer than Artest's.
There is no way in hell you trade the best player in the NBA and not only NOT get back the best player on the team he's going to (or hell, even the second best), but NOT get back the best player (other than Kobe) in the trade. There is no way Lakers management is this inept. Ben Wallace and Ron Artest are both just dead weight with no value at this point. There is no way you trade that guy without getting atleast two of those young Bulls players, and even then it is a complete rapeage by the Bulls.
Apparently the Bulls owner wants Kobe in Chicago at all costs and John Paxson, the Bulls GM, can not do anything about it and it looks like the front office vetoed him out. Also the Lakers front office really wants to get rid of Kobe because they can't deal with him anymore and the LA fans booing Kobe yesterday game makes the front office more desperate to get rid of him They are still definitely talking though, they just need to find the right combination of players and the right third team to work with Kobe is going to get traded by the trade deadline this year
New deal, supposedly "90% done", according to a Chicago radio station: LA Gets: Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Artest Kings get: Noah, T. Thomas Chicago gets: Kobe
L.A gets robbed. Why would you take on Artest over either of Noah/Thomas? Artest is dead weight and won't be around in two years. Sacramento cleans up nicely. I've never been a fan of either Noah or Thomas' games, but considering reports had them trading Artest for a deal "centered around" Rafer Alston a few months ago, I think this should suffice.
Yeah chicago went from giving gordan, ben wallace's contract and pj brown to hinrich, gordon, noah and thomas ---way too much imo. keep deng and either thomas/noah but dont give up both of those high draft picks. who is going to play point? duhon? he is good but much better suited as a backup. they lose a lot of the energy noah and thomas brought to the court.
In that case we should've taken Chicago's place. Rockets get - Kobe Lakers get - Artest, Francis, Head Kings get - Alston, 1st round pick(gon be in late 20s anyway)
Lakers get back Gordon and Artest and the make out like bandits? Unless its Gordon and Deng, the Lakers are getting robbed. I wouldn't pull the trigger without Deng if I was management. You cant build your team around a guy thats 6'2 But if I were Chicago management, I'd ask myself how much do I really want to risk since my team is already Elite in the east. Would trading Gordon and Deng put us over the edge? And by edge I mean Spurs, and Suns. I really dont think so. So why not just win games now and invest in the future. Lakers are screwed either way, hes not worth is contract. Took up the whole cap and wonders why the team sucks. Talk to Duncan about taking less money.
Because we've been investing in the future ever since Jordan left. Hinrich, Gordon, Thomas, and Noah are all great young talents but they're not pushing anyone over the edge, individually or collectively. Kobe puts you over the edge. Doubleplusgood when you get to keep the best player on your squad (Deng).
If I were Bulls I would stand firm on the Gordon, TT or Noah, and re-signed PJ deal. Let Kobe force the Lakers to trade him at all costs.
Yep. I'd do the same thing. "Sorry guys, should have thought it over when y'all gave me that no-trade clause"
Imagine Laker fans paying big money to watch Kwame Brown, Noah, Andrew Bynum, Tyus Thomas et. al. There better be plan B for the Lakers if they trade with the Bulls, even Ben Gordon isn't enough of a name for Laker fans.
