What about a Prius? Should i take it to the dealer because it will be its first time, or do i say it cant be too complicated for god sakes they are everywhere. They are not that special(outside of the batteries). I guess i just answered my own ?. Thanks, clutchfans.
There have been many studies on the "oil change" dilemma. One that comes to mind is a study done on New York cabs a while back. Their conclusion was to change it every 5000k miles. They checked the viscosity of the cab's oil after x amount of miles and 5k was their conclusion to make a safe decision. My Tacoma's owner's manual says every 7,500 miles and I go with between 5-6K. Look into this website, as there are many others. http://www.carjunky.com/news/motor_oil_myths.shtml Has anyone heard of AMSOIL? They have 30,000 mile oil change intervals. And they stand by their product. http://www.amsoil.com/
Or you could wait until your oil light comes on. That means change oil right? Or does it mean low oil and you're effed?
I would depend on one of these like I would depend on Ricky W. to pass a pizz test. Keep up with it yerself.
Uh, I have a TSX Acura...i get it changed every 4K or so at a Shell...I don't take it to the dealership because they are a ripoff! Although, the Shell people put a sticker to remind you to change when 3k is up...(sneaky!)
I once had a coupon for an oil change at my Mazda dealership. In the fine print, it said that certain models would cost more because of parts. When I arrived at the dealership they told me that my oil change would be more expensive than the coupon price because my car had a more expensive filter. Next time, I took my car to a quick change oil place and they didn't charge me more money for the filter. BTW, I change my oil about every 5,000 miles.
