Damn.... That hurts. ---- The Mavericks picked up some much-needed frontline help by agreeing to terms with free agent Juwan Howard today. The contract can’t be completed until Howard clears waivers tomorrow Howard (6-9, 253) hit the open market after Minnesota bought out his contract. The power forward has averaged 16.1 points and 7.1 rebounds over his 12-year career, including a stint in Dallas over parts of two season (2000-01 and ’01-02). “Juwan was too big of an opportunity to pass up,” president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson told mavs.com. “Juwan is a winner, he’s a leader and he knows the Maverick way. “He can swing from the ‘4’ to ‘5,’ so it gives us tremendous flexibility on the frontline.” Howard should join the rotation immediately backing up Gana Diop and Dirk Nowitzki up front. The Mavs were in need of help down low, especially with Erick Dampier out. Brandon Bass was the only other healthy big man with NBA experience on the roster. The team made room for Howard by releasing third-year center DJ Mbenga, who has recently come back from a last year’s season-ending knee injury. “DJ needs an opportunity to play and develop,” Nelson said. “We appreciate everything he’s done for us and he’s been a big part of our success. We’re hopeful that with playing time, whether it’s in the NBA or Europe, he’ll be able to join our team in the future.” http://www.nba.com/mavericks/news/Mavs_adding_Juwan_Howard-103007.html
well since when is juwan a winner? i guess thats probably why he knows the maverick way. (i liked what juwan brought to the team just not at that price of course, but he is always stuck on teams that dont do well like the new pat ewing theory, has juwan made it past the first round himself?)
the irony of all this, is I firmly believe that if we had Juwan in 05 Playoffs, we wouldve gotten past Dallas
It is asinine to call Juwan Howard a loser. Juwan has been on some good teams and some bad ones. Like most non-superstars, he isn't going to win games all by himself. However, when he has the coaching and talent around him, he is a definite contributor.
dude, i told you about the Juwan curse. once Juwan gets to your team, your team is riddled with suckage and unexplained injuries. Look at the Wiz, Magic, Nuggets. But once the Juwan Curse is over the team gets great fortune. Wiz get arenas, Magic get Dwight Howard, Nuggets get Carmelo. Now that Juwan has left.. the curse on the Rockets is over!
I hate that trade , kinda feel betrayed. actually, J-Ho is one of my favorite players who can stand out for yao at times.
Yippie....I'm glad he went to Dallas so he can help them disappea r faster in the playoffs.... He played with them first anyway......
THE CURSE IS OVER!!! Washington Post Juwan = Gilbert Arenas + success Orlando Post Juwan = Dwight Howard in the draft Dallas Post Juwan = NBA Finals Denver Post Juwan = Carmelo in draft Rockets Post Juwan = ??????
