I actually think the problem is more that they're calling more ticky tack fouls now then before. As storm surge has stated, the game has gotten a lot weaker. Look at the following clip between the Knicks and Heat. Very first play in, look at how Mourning has to go through a hip check before getting the ball, or the amount of tussel Ewing has to go through before getting the ball on the third play. Or the fact that defenders can actually play perimeter defense and gasp, have contact.

Also noticed no complaints? Because basketball is suppose to be physical and you should let most stuff go. Instead, now it's so subjective with the rules and every body thinks they should get a foul call anytime some one breathe on them. That's when you have uneven treatments become apparent such as Yao, who is actually defended correctly, but should be getting more calls if you're giving the same calls to other players like Wade. If NBA ref like they used to, no one would complain about Yao, and Wade will not get a call anytime he crash into someone, but he will still be able to adapt and be effective.

Wallace just needs to shut up and play ball. That fool spends more time complaining than playing.

What I hate the most is that people do the SAME thing in pick up ball because they see this stuff on tv. A guy jumps from the perimeter and the defender touches his fingers after he shoots the ball while still in the air and then he calls a foul.

Or another time when there are clearly 2 big guys under the rim and this short midget charges towards them and while in the way up he bumps into one defender and misses a shot and calls a foul.

whenever we get a guy calling weak stuff like that next play down i make sure that i foul him hard, but not dirty...i'll do that the play after...my take on it is that if he is gonna call a foul on anything and everything i may as well make it worth it for me.

(got into a few tussles over it cuz the pansy gets all pissy when he actually does get fouled, but its fun)

the video of the lame call is what Wade gets most games, especially in the 4th quarter and even worse in the playoffs, the finals v mavs was the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen........ it is like the refs have no idea how to judge contact anymore and if the player involved in the superstar then make the call and send em to the line

So Murphy, do you play more NBA minutes? Or do you complain more about NBA officiating?

I feel Wallace has a case, especially with the likes of Wade and LBJ. Keep in mind that, with a vet like Sheed, he grew into the NBA with the older generation of rules. It's understandable he feels that type of frustration.

I feel your analysis is fundamentally flawed. I don't know about many other players, but take Billups for example. The reason why he has so many FTA is b/c he's the best FT shooter on the Pistons. In late game situations, they give him the ball so that he can be intentionally fouled. That is where he gets a very large portion of his FTA.

That has absolutely no bearing on "Billups gets almost as many calls."

Say what you want about him, but there rings some truth to what he says...

That's a good point. But at the same time, Billups doesn't drive to the basket and throw his body into the defense nearly as much as Wade does. And if you watch Billups plays, he is exceptionally good at drawing fouls.

Another thing my post ignored which could be significant is technical free throws. A player who doesn't get a lot of shot attempts, but is a very good free throw shooter will have a skewed FTA-ratio because he shoots the technicals while on the court. That's partly why Billups has a high FTA-ratio as well.

Good one, I didn't think about that either. I personally don't feel Billups has a particular knack for drawing fouls, but keep in mind that I'm a Pistons fan, so I may be quite bias in that regard.

Rasheed Wallace: I'm tired of these phantom calls and ticky tack fouls.
NBA Spokesperson: Choose your next words carefully, Wallace. They may be your last as an NBA player.
Rasheed Wallace: [to himself: thinking] "Dwayne Wade and Lebron James"?
[Wallace unsheathes and points his glock at the NBA Spokesperson's throat]
NBA Spokesperson: Madman! You're a madman!
Rasheed Wallace: Dwayne Wade and Lebron James? You'll find plenty of both on national T.V.
NBA Spokesperson: No man, African or Chinese (Yi), no man threatens an NBA Spokesperson!
Rasheed Wallace: You bring the gambling refs into my league and to my city arena. You insult my coach. You threaten my fans with restraining orders and death! Oh, I've chosen my words carefully, you official. Perhaps you should have done the same!
NBA Spokesperson: This is blasphemy! This is basketball!
Rasheed Wallace: Basketball...? THIS... IS... ENTERTAINMENT!
[Kicks the NBA Spokesperson down the well]

Still too dumb to complain to refs instead of getting back on defense. That is just hurting his team.

In all honesty, if he felt that way, he should busted their a$$! Making disrespectful comments after you have been beaten is unprofessional. Obviously, he is hating the game and not the player!

Sheed is my second favorite player after Kobe, but I certainly do wonder why I like either one of them

The main thing I remember about that Pistons/Cavs series were a bunch of Pistons defenders standing there slackjawed while Lebron kept jogging into the lane and dunking it. I don't remember questionable refereeing entering into it one way or the other.
