I think this thread merits another pointless post: this thread is pointless.

I love how all these fans are jumping to conclusions after a few preseason games. It takes MONTHS for the players to develop chemistry and familiarity with a new coaching systems, especially one with so much offensive movement, like Adleman's.

My suggestion to all of you to relax and enjoy the start of the season. It's not fair to the players and the coaching staff when you pass judgement based on a few meaningless preseason games, where scrubs are getting minutes and the coach is experimenting with different line ups, while putting Yao Ming in the high post. None of this is going to happen in the regular season and anybody here with some common sense would understand that.

Did we really upgrade this off-season? Are you bleeping out of your mind? Of course we did. That’s why Hollinger picked us as favorites to win the title. That’s why its unanimous among sports websites and writers that we are among the most improved title contenders this summer, along with Boston.

What’s with the Rafer lovefest? What’s with the JVG lovefest? What’s with the Juwan Howard lovefest? What you BLEEPING kidding me? While they were here, all you read about was how much you wanted them gone. And now that that has been remedied, you’re complaining about these obvious upgrades? How do you appease these people?

i think we improved but it will take time to see it.

we have about 4 new players in the rotation who will take time to gel, on top of that all of the players need to learn a completely new system with a very opposite philosophy.

i expect a slow start, but late in the season we will be scary.

Just my opinion, I think that Rafer might split equal time with James, that way we have the scoring presence in james when we need it, and the assisting by Rafer when we need it.

all answers i got so far:

    1) preseason. it means nothing.

i do think the last preseason game showed something. we play all starters (you can argue on pf position, spurs had most starters). it did do well as we can expect since our starter were pretty much same as last season. when we went to our bench, we didn't do much better.

    2) hope they will gel in late of season

man, i had a lot of hopes every season. what i got at the end of each season?

    3) everything on paper looks good

this is not a fantacy bball league. :D

We are definitely more talented on paper this year, whether that translates to more wins or success in the play offs we shall see. But the Rockets certainly did more this off season than I could have hoped for considering the cap restraints and lack of tradeable talent.

The premise is that JVG wasnt the right coach for us, too defensive minded, predictable offense.

Personnel wise, I think we have improved. We didnt have Francis Mike Jame, Bonzi Wells, Scola when we played Utah. Arguably we would have beaten them.

Is this going to translat to more wins and success in the playoffs? Too early to tell. One thing for sure, we are not going to launch without any hicups.

without the addition of scola, i really dont think we've improved, but if you add in scola, it's pretty big

Did we really improve at our starting PG? The answer is "not much".

There was a major talent infusion. Last year, there was virtually no depth and you had three starters that would probably not have started for any other team in the NBA. Remember, even Battier was a bench player prior to coming here. Rafer doesn't start for anyone, and Chuck "I love him" Hayes is a reserve at best. If Rafer starts the season, once he goes into his brickfest routine he will be sitting. Yao and TMac appear to have lobbied for Rafer, but I can't imagine him lasting under Coach A.

rafer has been the best we can choose from our pgs. it sounds very disappointed but it is truth. he played in preseason games better than any of pgs we have now.

    Yes we did improve.
    Scola>Howard
    James>Lucas
Bonzi is our 6th man and we still have Luther.
We improved at every position , our starting pg is still not very good but we have a good backup insted of no backups.
    Yao will continue to improve.
    T-Mac is more healthy.
We improved imo from a 1st round exit to getting to the 2nd round and having a good chance at getting to the WCF.
I don't think we can win the west unless we have amazing chemistry.
Francis could have been the x factor to help us get a championship if he was playing well but thtas not the case at least for now.

This is stupid. This is a new system guys! THey aren't going to have everything down in one summer without any REAL games under the belt. They are human after all. It is entirely wayyy too early to judge. My prediction is that they will start to fully grasp the system by the All-star break. Before then, expect the Rockets to struggle a little during that adjustment period.

Rafer is a great fit as long as he is the 4th or 5th scoring option. His shooting woes were exaggerated last year because of the offense we ran and the lack of a quality back up.

he is a better career 3pt shooter than Francis and he was ONE percent worse than Mike James last year. He is definitely the best distributor and definitely the worst at creating his own shot. Fortunately we have the depth to sub him out when we have a line up that requires more scoring from the PG.

    We really did.

First of all is a coach, that's the main change.

Damn now we can say we have bench, we have bench! And Bonzi is healthly, he's gonna help us this year.

    Forget about preseason

agree with you on all but the best distributor. he is the best pg who brings ball up w/o TO among our other pgs.
