I'm really surprised Les is eating this much salary to keep Novak. If he's willing to part with this much cash, then why not keep Harris instead of Novak. Harris is a far better player in every way except 3-point shooting. I have been impressed with Landry though lately and think he's a pretty good find for where we got him in the draft.
Rockets waive G Sura, three others October 29, 2007 HOUSTON (TICKER) -- The Houston Rockets waived Bob Sura on Monday, ending the guard's injury-ravaged three-year stint with the team. Sura signed with the Rockets in August 2004 and averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in his first season with the team. But the 6-5 Sura has been plagued by back and knee injuries, which have forced him to miss all of the past two seasons. He underwent surgery to repair a ruptured disc on November 22, 2005 - less than two months after having arthroscopic knee surgery. ADVERTISEMENT A first-round draft selection in 1995, Sura owns career averages of 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in parts of 10 seasons with the Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Rockets made three other moves to finalize their 15-man roster Monday, waiving center Jackie Butler, guard John Lucas and forward Justin Reed.
I guess Morey didn't let chemistry to mess and kept players that he is faith in. Steve Novak has now a chance, slightly but he has it. DAMN! LET'S HOPE HE WON'T BLOW IT !
I bet rybo would be pretty decent in this system. He's a better cutter than Novak and Snyder. Wow, i miss him too.
Perhaps Morey has crunched the numbers and he forsees many games this year where the Rox are behind by 3 points with one possession left.
I'm kinda glad they gave Novak one more year to develop and prove himself as a rotation player. Good shooters don't grow on trees -- I still do think that despite his defensive deficiencies right now, he's going to develop into a legitimate offensive weapon down the stretch.
The only good shooting he's shown are college 3's. Luther is a far better shooter than Novak based on what I have seen. He should be gone.
I'm just glad we kept Landry because if we would have let him go, it would've come to bite us. He could be a pretty decent rotation guy for a lot of teams in the East right now.
I'm thinking Brooks Landry and Novak will be on the inactive list for the first three months, relegated to the D-league to get their minutes in. IMHO the roster as it stands is not that meaningful. It's like when you have a baseball draft: if you're an experienced drafter, you use those last three rounds as all-potential no-risk picks. 80% of my picks at the end of the draft I just end up waiving for guys that emerge in the early part of the season. Hopefully with the Rockets they'll be able to do some player combo (2-for-1 or something like that) trades to open more slots up so they can sign/play the ones that deserve more minutes. Another good rule of fantasy baseball: if you're a good team, you want to trade more players for fewer; and if you're struggling, you do the opposite, stars for lots of talent. In general the talent level will always favor the side with the most players, but if you got enough players already you'll end up better with that one guy with the most value.
Novak's shooting might be useful in last-possession situations. Perhaps he'll show some improvement in other areas during garbage time minutes. Or is he destined for the D League? How does the roster work-- are we limited to 12 active players? If so, who are the three "spares?"
We need Novak's shooting. Besides Luther, we don't have a "pure shooter". He can come in handy as he matures. I mean a giant that can shoot?? And if he ever gets some sort of inside game he can really be a valuable asset to spread the floor.
Remember Peja? I agree that Novak would need to move without the ball and make cuts like Peja did, but if he was doing that he would be getting minutes by now...
Well, it was either going to be Reed or Snyder. Frankly, I am glad to see Kirk stay, but he sure better put on his learning helmet and get to work, because his stints on the floor have resembled train wrecks more often than not.
its funny that the players cut also recieved the least amount of minutes in the pre season. i think we should send brooks, novak, and landry to the DL. JVG was against sending player there because he felt that practicing with nba players everyday was better for development. however, in the case of novak in particular, its probably better to let him find himself with PT and experience, and gain confidence.
In my opinion, they should send AB and Novak to the D-League immediately. You know Adelman isn't going to play them, and they could use the minutes. If we have some injuries, bring 'em up.
