Here are some per-minute stats and "Hollinger stats" for the Rockets players this preseason. Maybe we can get a rough idea of what some of the players will produce for us in the regular season on a box score stats level.

Note: These stats do not include games that were played with non-NBA teams.

Interesting... for the most part, the regulars are below par statistically.

Crap, I posted this in the wrong forum. Can a mod move it to GARM?

    Some quick observations:

    • It's interesting that when you exclude Rafer's game against the Greek team, his scoring efficiency is no better than last season (actually, worse). Still, he's doing everything else very well.
    • Scola and Chuck have struggled with turnovers, and of course fouls.
    • Yao's assist ratio is a little more than in past seasons, but still not as much as his rookie year
    • Last season, 58% of Luther's FGA were threes. In preseason, it was only 28%.
    • Battier has been much more active grabbing rebounds.

Wow...turnovers are really hurting Scola's efficiency rating.

Hmm, if the stats held up during the season, I think you have to make Bonzi the 3rd scorer and bring Mike james and luther head off the bench.

According to Holliger's predicted PER it looks as though Shane is playing above expectations and Chuck and Luis below.

I think that may be due to the fact that Luis is still learning the rules and Chuck has new responsibilities in this offense that he is getting used to.

Shane's increase along with Luther's is something that I hope continues. Both seem to be getting more offensive productivity out of this offense.

Here are Hollinger's predicted per ratings

Rafer Alston 2007-08 Projected PER 11.22
    2006-07 PER: 12.99

Shane Battier 2007-08 Projected PER 11.86
    2006-07 PER: 12.05

Steve Francis 2007-08 Projected PER 14.3
    2006-07 PER: 15.19

Chuck Hayes 2007-08 Projected PER 15.41
    2006-07 PER: 13.95

Luther Head 2007-08 Projected PER 13.23
    2006-07 PER: 13.73

Mike James 2007-08 Projected PER 13.22
    2006-07 PER: 13.3

Tracy McGrady 2007-08 Projected PER 22.92
    2006-07 PER: 23.28

Yao Ming 2007-08 Projected PER 28.51
    2006-07 PER: 26.54

Dikembe Mutombo 2007-08 Projected PER 8.15
    2006-07 PER: 14.37

Luis Scola 2007-08 Projected PER 15.17

Kirk Snyder 2007-08 Projected PER 13.91
    2006-07 PER: 12.16

Bonzi Wells 2007-08 Projected PER 11.42
    2006-07 PER: 8.92

Well, I wouldn't go that far. PER isn't really a great indicator of performance over just a few games, it just *might* given an idea of how they'll eventually perform. Whether they're playing above or below expectations really should only be judged after a few weeks of regular season games.

I know, I was just comparing with what you posted. :) Personally I think everyone will have a lower PER in the first couple of months of the season compared to the last couple.

The only exception to that may be Bonzi.

According to these stats, Jackie Butler will score 16.7 ppg. Youre right, realistic stats all the way.

No, that's according to you. You're the one making the inference than Jackie's per minute stats based on some brief preseason appearances would hold up in the regular season if he played 40 mpg.

My opinion? My opinion if he were still on the roster, would be risky to say he'd get over 2ppg, Im going by what the threadstarter originally posted.

I'm sorry...I know it's not an argument worth getting into and I know that there is a very small sample size for these statistics but this doesn't bode well for people who think Kirk Snyder would be better bench insurance than Justin Reed (money-related issues aside).

    3.2

    3 point freaking 2?

The only player even close to that (who is still 2.5 times his PER) is Aaron Brooks. A 5'10" rookie learning the hardest position on the floor.

I am the thread starter, and that is not what I posted. I posted per minute stats (multiplied by a factor of 40 for readability). Those numbers do not imply that the players would average a similar quantity per game. If anything, you could infer what they'll average per minute. And even that, you need to do cautiously considering its preseason and they've played limited minutes.

And for the record, in 847 minutes over his first three seasons in the league, Jackie has averaged 16.2 points per 40 minutes played. So, the 16.5 pts/40min isn't exactly a crazy figure.

Yeah, Snyder hasn't played well. I think he's been overly aggressive trying to impress the coaches, and that's caused him to take some poor shots (for him) and have an excessive number of turnovers.

I agree with your opinion of Snyder trying to show off his "goods." He was taking a bunch of crazy shots and hardly trying to create any opportunity for his teammates.

Which is the exact same thing he did with the Hornets and why he ended up getting traded here (tried too hard, taking too many ill-advised shots in summer league/practice and ended up having an argument with the coach about it).
