Thats what I'm trying to avoid. As a fan I will not be rational when games start. I will be either mad or to excited. This is a expectation set in total lucidity and I think its perfectly logical and fair. If I say something similar during a failing season or after a loss it would be met with responses like "its just one loss" .
benchmark[1,noun]benchmark[2,transitive verb] Main Entry: 1bench·mark Pronunciation: \ˈbench-ˌmärk\ Function: noun Date: circa 1842 1usually bench mark : a mark on a permanent object indicating elevation and serving as a reference in topographic surveys and tidal observations 2 a: a point of reference from which measurements may be made b: something that serves as a standard by which others may be measured or judged c: a standardized problem or test that serves as a basis for evaluation or comparison (as of computer system performance)
i don't want to get caught up in regular season wins. i think the bench mark for adelman comes in the playoffs. second round or bust.
The Rockets either make the playoffs or they don't. They either win the first round or the don't. Assuming the team is injury free, anything less than a second round appearance will be a major disappointment; especially if McGrady pulls a disappearing act.
Personally, my benchmark for the Rockets is the western conference finals. This team is built to win NOW. Bonzi isn't getting any younger or slimmer. James/Francis/Alston will only go down hill from here. OTOH, our only player with potential is Brooks. The team has to make some noise, and that means actually beating one of the top 3 teams in the league: Suns, Spurs, or the Mavs. Getting to the 2nd round by beating the Nugs or the Jazz just doesn't do it for me.
That's what I've always said. People put way too much blame on the coaches. Yes it's their strategy but it's the players who actually make it happen. They're the ones that have to make the shots, get the rebound or foul before too much time runs off the clock. With that said, if we don't get pass the 1st round again, it's obviously a failure.
who cares about season I care about playoffs...anything besides round 2 is a major failure, we could win 42 games but advance and I'll be happy.
Exactly. I expect the Rockets to take their lumps until everyone gets it. This season should look alot like Tracy's first season with us except we will get out of the first round.
Unlike maybe most of guys here, I care about regular season as much as playoffs. The better your regular season record is, the easier you get out of the first round in the playoffs. say if we are the 6-8 seed then we are likely to meet Spurs,Suns,Mavericks in the first round... I'd prefer we at least go all out for the 4-5 seed, and if possible, top 3 seed for sure.
regular season is important, but i care about playoff more.i hope we can past 1st round at least this season.nothing could be more annoying that we always stopped at the 1st round.
i care about the regular season because it goes on longer...i want to watch a good team for 6 months not 3 weeks...so it does matter to me more than most...but this is a dumb thread...the thread should be whats the bench mark for les? for morey? for mac and yao? for the role players? coaching is our strong suit with adelman
for me i dont care if the rockets win less games this year as long as we make the playoffs and advance in beyond the first round. we have a brutal opening schedule and will lose a fair share of games as players continue to learn and adapt to the new system and new teammates.
They will win more because they have more talent. It will take time for the chemistry to get right, but they will win more often than not because their players are good... So while it is a work in progress, I still believe they will be challenging for the division title THIS year. DD
I don't know if we'll have a better season record. If we don't have injuries, we certainly should, just as JVG would have last year. For the next few months, I expect the team will need to gel and develop chemistry with so many new players, new system and new coaches. So, that might affect our record, and will certainly test this boards support for the new coach. But, I do expect us to AT LEAST get out of the first round. Having Scola and quality depth has to make a difference. Adelman has better talent than ever before, but his two superstars don't have the heart of a champion yet. That's his biggest challenge. The benchmark I'm looking for is if he can develop that heart into this team. If so, I expect 1-4 championships. This team quit on JVG against Utah, and Les undermined him last year. So, hopefully, with their support and better players, we'll see better results.
You think the team quit on him? Come on, really quit on him? I could not believe that they would throw their playoff chances away to get rid of a coach. I do agree about the better players though, but your other take was so striking....do you really belive that? DD
For me, last season the most impressive games are two regular season games. One is that we beat lakers in overtime in LA, although Kobe got 50+ pts. Another one is that we beat suns and got homecourt advantage. I enjoy them a lot.
