Rashed thinks the NBA wanted their "darling" (Lebron) in the finals.

I don't even know what he said. But I do know... He is right. Wade gets to the line what... 11 times per game? Lets see him do that in the late 80's.

Based on his logic, we should have been in the NBA final at least once before.

It'd be a more compelling statement coming from someone who wasn't in the Eastern Conference (sounds slightly excuse-ish) but sadly I agree with him. I thought it was more obvious with Wade though - few fans outside of Miami will tell you that D-Wade gets the same calls as everyone else.

It's really depressing to think about.

Regarding Dwyane Wade, I don't think its so much a superstar bias. It's just the way calls are being made now.

Consider a stat I'll call "FTA-ratio". It estimates the ratio of trips to the foul line to FGA + trips to the foul line. Like this:

    FGA-ratio = [ .44 * FTA ] / [ FGA + .44 * FTA ]

Top 10 perimeter players in FTA-ratio (only considering PGs, SGs, and SFs) who played at least 1000 minutes last year:

    Code:
           [B]Player Team	PS	FTA-ratio[/B]
    1 maggette,corey lac	SG	0.256
    2 daniels,antonio was	PG	0.220
    3 francis,steve nyk	PG	0.213
    4 kirilenko,andrei uta	SF	0.201
    5 wade,dwyane mia	SG	0.197
    6 iguodala,andre phi	SG	0.197
    7 billups,chauncey det	PG	0.191
    8 martin,kevin sac	SG	0.190
    9 hill,grant orl	SF	0.178
    10 jefferson,richar njn	SF	0.177

All these guys are well known, but only Dwyane Wade is really considered a "superstar", with the possible exception of Rasheed's teammate, Chauncey Billups.

Maggette is the guy I always bring up when people want to claim that Wade gets severe preferential treatment due to his superstardom. If it takes being a superstar to get to the line that often, why does Maggette get there so much?

The flaw is people think of things in terms of per-game stats. But officiating decisions are made on a per play basis. That's what the FTA-ratio captures, and FTA/g does not.

What a crybaby. Rasheed just needs to accept the fact that Lebron and friends sent him home packing last season.

NBA executives, TV executives and everyone else involved thought for our dream NBA Championship matchup we need to pit Cleveland up with San Antonio, what could be better............

Aren't these comments ten times worse than the ones that got JVG fined 100K?

The NBA has allowed this to happen, over the years the number of questionable calls has gone it, all because Stern decided to soften the game and make any contact a foul. When the game was rough and tough there were never any complaints.

thanks, Durvasa. i always enjoy your analyses.

it's interesting that Francis is so high up there. given his size, his ability to get steals, and his ability to get to the rim, he might break into the rotation if Mike James can't keep the opposing team's 2nd-string PGs in check.

I respect Rasheed but not his opinions.
They felt in the playoffs because they didn't play good basketball.
LeBron had amazing nights and he beat Pistons,Wallace is just jelaous.

If you thought those ratings were bad though, imagine how much worse San Antonio vs Detroit would have been.

Maggette is a machine. I only watched the Clips a few times last season, mostly late in the year, and Maggette was incredible. He is so incredibly athletic there are few players that compare. The combination of his first-step with that incredible strength is impossible to stop once he makes up his mind to attack. I've wanted him on the Rockets for two years. He would be perfect in Adelman's offense.

This is one SF/SG who could probably bench press 175 lbs more than most centers in the NBA.

OMG that video makes me want to puke. Honestly I think the Refs should be given bonuses that dwindle down if video evidence can show irefutible (sp) proof that the call was a horrible call. For instance, Yao CLEARLY gets hammered almost every time hes in the post and no call is made. Refs should have some sort of punishment for their calling during the game.

Didn't they just put in instant replay for situations like that.
