if we go with a rotation of 6 perimeter players and 3 post players, is that too small to win...3 of the 6 perimeter players are small too...chuck is small...its hard to rotate 6 perimeter players and get them all good solid minutes....
We're going to lose a lot of rebounding as is with the abandonment of JVG's "all 5 crash the boards" philosophy. Add that to Yao's perimeter play on both offense and defense, and our undersized roster: we're in for a repeat of what happened in Game 7 when we couldn't get a rebound. I think Adelman should get all 5 to crash the boards like JVG did because we have guys who can rebound well at their positions, and he should also find a way to give Deke some minutes.
You have to remember that Battier, McGrady, and Wells can play the 3 and 4 positions, and Hayes and Scola can essentially play the 3,4, and 5 positions in Adelman's system, so playing 6 perimeter guys isn't as hard as it seems, since guys can just slide over to another position.
Considering our weak trading and financial position it's been a miracle to get all the new players. We couldn't get a tall defensive minded guard to relieve T-Mac at the 2. Bonzi will have problems against big guards on the defensive end and Battier can't be all over the place. I was hoping to see if Harris could be used as a backup defensive 3 or 2.Head and Francis will be useful but they too short against big guards. Snyder unfortunately has been disappointing otherwise he could be of help against big 2's on defense.
Who was playing the 4 when Adelman had a lineup of James, McGrady, Battier, Hayes, and Wells out there??
Well it may be a problem but only in few games. I think with our small lineup we can be more effective, for example in up-tempo. Chuck is small but he can rebound, probably better than Yao. Scola also can. We can put Shane on the 4spot also.
Yeah, this team is small. S'why I wanted Snyder, Novak, and Reed to work out. James and Francis are small and over the hill, Chuck is at his ceiling.
Yes, definitely too small. We are going to have matchup problems as usual. Who is going to guard Duncan? Boozer? Nowitzki? Amare? Unless Scola has some defensive skills we dont know about, those will be mismatches. Perhaps we can package Bonzi and Hayes for a large rebounding and shotblocking PF.
The Rockets had the same problems last year with Yao missing 30+ games, no bench and still won 52 games.
Remember that the guys we do have often out muscle their opponent ( Hayes, Francis, Scola) and there are others who are above average reboundrs for their position (Hayes, Francis, Tmac, Wells.) I think we will be alright. If all else fails we have the Cookie Monster on the bench to fill the void
move hayes and Rafer to other teams. That what i want. The reason is I still remember what happened last playoff.
This may be a significant difference between Van Gundy and Adelman. If you think about defense all the time, you look at speed-size mismatches and worry that you can't guard the other team's bigs. If you think more about offense, you look at speed-size mismatches and think, "We can run these guys into the ground."
i think our guards are defintely too small. noone could guard michael finley. i have a feeling dallas will kill us because they all have big guards, jason terry, josh howard, and jerry stackhouse.
So Dallas has bigger guards than us big deal, but what did we see last year in the playoffs? We saw this same Dallas team get beat by the Golden State Warriors who not only played small ball, were also the smallest team in the playoffs last year. Dallas has to be the most mentally fragile team in the NBA because there best player Dirk, who in my opinion is not a leader is very mentally fragile. So please don’t mention the "Dallas Choke Artist Mavericks" because they have yet to prove themselves in the playoffs. Height at this level does not mean as much as it does on the collegiate level. It’s about HEART not HEIGHT. Look at the 94-95 Rockets when they won their second championship, they were on the small side as well remember? So don’t tell me that it can't be done because I have seen it happen before. Even with smaller guys like Allen Iverson who was at one point dominating the league for a few years because of his HEART. In the words of one of Houston's favorite sons "Don’t never underestimate the heart of a champion!”. If our chemistry is good then we will be good.
Jason Terry is the same height as Rafer Alston and Mike James. Steve Francis is taller than him by an inch.
