There isn't a HQ link because it's 8:30 long and would take awhile to encode that in HQ, but if you want the LQ version of it, ask. Here's a Youtube link...

    Funny...

I DVR'd this entire show yesterday and am currently watching it back thinking "I wonder if batkins is going to cap the Rockets section of the show?".

As for the interview, why did he make that comment about how the Rockets feel they are a few years away from winning it all? That's seems just a bit dumb.

I think he meant if you were only a player or two away like the Rockets were rather than rebuilding like some of the other teams were. That was my thought.

It seems like he was saying that if you're close to winning, you make the exception and overspend on a guy, but if you're not ("like us") then you don't.

I am sorry but I have found these NBA TV guys to be limited in their knowledge in general. Very rarely have I come away from a show and thought, "Yeah, he made a real good point. They slick rick guy Frank Isola in the middle keeps bringing up Yao not being able to get the big rebound, and talks about the end of game 7 with the jazz as evidence to that. What I remember from that game was that there were a lot of long rebounds because the jazz were shooting long shots. I don't know how Yao is supposed to get a long rebound when he is under the basket. Plus any telecast with Peter Idiot Vecey is a bad thing in my opinion. I think Fred Carter, and the guy on the end are the only ones who are half mentally impaired, rather than full blown like the other two.

This must mean he has more Magical-Morey moves to make in the following offseason! Go get 'em Morey!

You can tell that a lot of the commentators feel a little threatened by Moneyball and try to take shots at Morey, like the guy saying he wasn't good at math but we have too many point guards. I here this from commentators a lot when they interview Morey, but luckily he takes it pretty well.

you are right, it did sound like that.
but if you listen to it again - seems he jumbled his words a bit.

i agree with hayesfan, that morey was foiling us against the twolves
saying twolves were a few years away and we are right there...

Watch the video again and you will see Morey said the TWolves are years away and we were just a player away. He just said it a little futzed up. But if you watch it again its clearly what he meant.

That said, another magic move would be nice. But closer to the interview is Morey put extra points on the team so he could use his number crunching - to have choice. Morey's numbers can help evaluate to find the best combo, and for that to be worth anything we have to have good players to choose from. SF is a good player, stick in there Stevie.

And lastly, if a=b, then a-b is 0, and you can't divide by 0, undefined.
Solution: Any number squared equals itself times itself, thats the definition of squared.
    How'd I do?

Morey is a sharp guy. He picked the parts of the questions that made sense and answered pretty well. Bravo. I like Morey more after that interview - he did good.

Did you hear how Vescey pronounced Scola?

Why does Vescey come off so poorly? Reminds me of Bill Walton announcing games. I have a viceral reaction to them- snear. I think thats what they are going for, must be.

Vecsey is an idiot. Not even Rox haters like Rosen or Simmons would insinuate that Adelman would have trouble getting Rox players to play defense cuz they haven't been used to it. I like how Morey pwned him by informing him that we had one of the best def in the league last season.

Yeah, but afterwards, they said the numbers didn't matter because the Rockets couldn't get the stops they needed in the playoffs. In other words, they lost to a very strong offensive team in the playoffs, so that means they're not a good defense team. It's moronic, but that's the logic a lot of these "analysts" go by.

    wow these fools are stupid.

tmac does not show up AT ALL in the playoffs? 29, 7, 7?

we couldn't stop utah in the postseason? my god fools, where were u? we held them to a lower ppg and fg% than the spurs did. we lost b/c our offense couldn't score jack.

i mean if all you're going to do is watch games and analyze, analyze CORRECTLY.

After listening to this interview, I have a couple of thoughts:

(1)Morey may be making some signficant in-season moves after a significant number of games get played. If the objective evidence shows that certain of his off-season assumptions are not correct, the analytical approach would seem to say taht you reject the previous hypotheses and make corrections.

(Besides, there really are too many rotation-worthy small guys. If Steve finally fits in and gets some PT, somebody else has to sit in favor of him).

    (2) I wonder how much input Morey will have into the more tactical matters on the court-- like suggesting Adelman as to which combo had the best +/-, what combos work best against a particular opponent, etc. And how well Adelman takes these ideas. JVG seems to appreciate these things, I don't know if Adelman does or not.
