Seeing as how they make so much off it, I don't think it's a waste of money. Anyway, I liked all three, just mainly because I know what to expect coming in. I just go with some friends and expect lots of blood and torture.
The first 2 were very good and the thrird wasnt a great movie, but it wrapped up all the loose ends of the first 2. I dont know how the 4th will continue, but I plan on seeing it this weekend.
You know, I saw the first 3, liked them (esp. 1 and 3)...but for some reason I have no desire to see this one. I feel like the story is finished. Jigsaw is gone, it was a good finale...adding more and more prequels just ruins it.
i think im gonna watch it tonight. I wanted to see The Kingdom this weekend. I'll just make it a 2 for 1
I guess this is how I feel about it. Can anyone explain the excitement of watching torture to me? I don't mean this to be calling anyone out, and I don't mean to sounds high-and-mighty (I'm not high). But I'm interested. I hated the scene in Rerservoir Dogs, and I avoid torture scenes. I guess, if movies are somewhat escapism, for me at least... torture just emphasizes the worst of what happens in the real world. Just help me out. Are you cheering for the bad guy/gal, the torturer? Or are you cheering for the brave (?) person who might escape? The latter case is kind of that they've-got-Walker-bound-up-in-a-warehouse-but-wait-til-he-unties-those-knots-and-kicks-them-in-the-face phenomenon I guess. I guess I could understand that. I understand the Saws have creative elements to their torture, with a Rube Goldberg sort of quality, so maybe its the inner engineering nerd in people?
I just usually cheer for the person being tortured, hoping they can get out alive from the situation. but of course in Saw movies, that rarely happens. I don't know anyone who actually WANTS the person to die a horrible death. But then again, if they did not want to see that to begin with, they wouldn't be sitting in the theater.
personally, i dont think most people watch it for the torture. I know I didnt. In fact, I didnt watch the first one until it came on HBO. I'm not a fan of any horror movies, so i didnt see it in the theater. I dont think the majority of people who watch this movie say "lets go watch this, there's gonna be torture in it" I thought the first one was good enough to see the 2nd. The 2nd was ok enough to see the 3rd. I didnt go for the torture. I wanted to see how they would get out and why they were being tortured more than anything else....if that makes sense
Actually I enjoyed the first one because of the twists. The ending was really good, I don't even remember any torture scenes from the first one. Other than the one with that chick and the metal head thing.
yeah, he doesnt even deserve the popularity of the "y" I don't think its about watching torture. It's more about the suspense, plot twists and the anticipation of whats going to happen next.
My wife can't stand horror movies, especially torture based horror flicks, but she'll watch war movies with torture scenes all day long, so it might be strictly genre based for some people...
Thanks for the answers, guys. Good points all 'round. Torture in war movies doesn't bother me the same way, interesting to note. I think a lot of people really enjoy being scared (see other thread), and that's not one of my favorites, so that explains my take more than anything. Cheers.
me and the wife have usually gone to see the others as soon as it came out but this time, not so much. we still want to but there is no desire to go see it asap. for whatever reason... we have both like all the movies, her a lot more than me.
I'm not sure who goes to a movie thinking "I like torture". I can see you saying "I dislike torture, so I don't want to see it". But it'd be more "I like the premise of the movie. Something that comes with the premise and plot is torture scenes. It'll be cool to see contraptions and see how people get out of them, see why they're in them, see what they do, see if they make it. It'll be suspenseful, etc.. it'll be a movie."
I saw it. I thought it was good. The best 4th edition to a movie I've ever seen. It was better than the 3rd, but not as good as the first 2.
Saw it tonight too. Pretty good movie. Sheds some light as to why Jigsaw is Jigsaw. I have to believe there will be another one based off of what I saw tonight.
