http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/1156932 Sprewell, upset over a poke in the stomach from Thomas on a shot, caught Thomas from behind with a forearm in the back. When they squared off, Sprewell went into a fighter's stance and cocked his right fist. "I'm just glad he didn't take one more step towards me," Sprewell said. K.T. would have taught the Predator a nice lesson. Too bad the Knicks gave us a lesson on how to blow leads.
I put my $ on K9- all that posturing by Spree is just kid stuff. KT reminds me of Barkley - Spree did not want any of that.
Kenny's first season WAS with the best of them, Sir Charles himself. K9 would've beaten the crap out of that guy. Don't look at KT's size, he's one tough Motherfu*ker.
Sprewell better have hoped for a first punch knock out as once Kenny got ahold of him it would all be over. By the way how come no technical for Sprewell? When I think of some almost silly "taunting" technicals that are given. I guess slapping the backboard or gloating is a technical, but actually being serious about fighting, but not throwing a punch, is not. I think we can expect more instances like this with people getting very pissed off at Kenny. I can't remember a power forward embarassing the man guarding him over and over by driving to the basket when everyone knows he is going to do it and he even pauses to let everyone know he is going to do it. Kenny has become the forward equivalent of Cuttino on the drive --so many guys that can drive to the basket at will. Cheer up Rocket fans I rmember the years prior to the championships when the Rockets were viewed as athletic underachievers, too. No guarantee but Rudy has faith that it will all pull together in another two or three years.
A funny story to go with this thread. This should show you how little respect Kenny Thomas gets around the league... After the double tech on Spre and KT, the ref comes over to the scorers table and says... "Double T. I got Sprewell and (then the ref looks over hs shoulder) I think that's Thomas over there. Right?"
If it means anything, I saw Spree purposefully go up to KT after the game to give him a pound/handshake. No hard feelings, I guess.
Starting almost all season, and playing well will be great for us when we have to trade him this summer. Logically, there's no way we can keep a happy Kenny Thomas in Houston. Mo's been out all season. Rudy loves the guy, and even if we wanted to, no one would take his contract after him being out a whole season. Griffin, we can't trade, because he's a rookie and can become a superstar. We have to give him another chance IN CASE this year doesn't work out. KT won't, and deserves better, play 3rd string PF. Mostly highly we'll trade him for a first round pick? Can Keny Thomas, averaging his current 16 and 8(?) , and our highest pick get us into the top 6 picks? Maybe we can pickup a project C?
thx for the stories NJRocket and DonKnutts. We can always find the little gems at cc.net, if we just look. This cheered me up. Thanks glynch!!
More quotes from Spree, courtesy today's NY Post: Sprewell admitted afterward he came oh-so-close to taking a swing at Thomas, who had poked him in the stomach in the third quarter. "Its serious out there," Sprewell said. "I don't play around. I'm not going to be like Marcus [Camby] and not get my money's worth." Sprewell was referring to Camby's missed swing at Danny Ferry last season that cost him five games. The Sprewell incident occurred last night after he shot an airball from the right corner, after which Thomas poked him in the stomach. Sprewell said afterward he thought it was intentional. He chased Thomas down the court and body-checked him hard as Rice drilled a trey from straight away to give the Rockets a 58-45 lead with 6:00 left in the third. Sprewell and Thomas squared off, exchanging words as Sprewell cocked his right first, but no blows were thrown. "I'm glad he didn't take one more step," said Sprewell, who finished with 23 points. "I wouldn't have let him get any closer. I wasn't worried about (suspensions), but I'm glad nothing happened. I'm not the type who holds it in. I settle it right there." After the game, Sprewell sought out Thomas and the two shook hands.
Agreed... living in New York before I got League Pass (one of the better decisions of my life), I watch more of the Knicks than any other team. When Spree first got here, everybody was kind of expecting this out-of-control timebomb, but he's shown nothing but on-court composure throughout his tenure as a Knick. In fact, when he was issued a technical earlier this year, Spree claimed it was his first as a Knick... though the paper reported the next day it was actually more like his third. That's pretty good though, for three full seasons plus. However, I've noticed Spree getting surlier and surlier every game. He knows the Knicks are a marginal team at best. I think he's getting increasingly frustrated by the Knicks' inadequacies (remember him chirping for a big man in the offseason and his supposed part in the exile of G.Rice)... hopefully it doesn't turn into the Golden State syndrome all over again -- being the best player on a crappy team with an annoying coach. In last week's game against Atlanta, Spree -- much like he did last night against Houston -- went right up to an opposing player in a very confrontational manner... that time it was Toni Kukoc, who really really wanted no part of it. I mean, Toni basically ran away. But I hadn't seen Spree do something like that for a long time. I know the league is watching...
