You know, I may get flamed for saying this, but War of the Worlds kind of scared me for this very reason. You never get a good look at those tripods until the very end. For that reason, they kind of scared the crap out of me, especially when the first one rises out of the ground and makes all those weird noises before it starts killing everyone. I may be in the minority, but I thought that movie was pretty well done, despite all the well-documented plot holes.
sleep with ur hands ontop of ur heart(chest), it puts pressure on your heart, and you'll have nightmares. no lie My friend and I played Silent Hill until 2-3am. It was time for me to go home, as I walked from the backdoor to my car, I was so paranoid and scared, every little sound made me jitter.
the others serpent and the rainbow return of the living dead and american werewolf in london (which i saw when i was around 7 or 8) fallen
I saw the re-release of The Exorcist. Man, that was weak. I was laughing more than anything. I gues people were more easily scared back in the 70's
Same here for actually getting a little freaked out the first time I saw Blair Witch Project. I saw it at River Oaks before it blew up and hit the major theaters. It spooked me out that you never saw what was chasing them. Also the part where you hear the kids outside their tent and you hear those damn noises from the forest...It creeped me out.
The only movie that scared me was the Blair Witch. Not Joking. I think it was because the crappy cameras and the way the people were doing the filming themselves made it feel real to me. I didn't feel like that was a movie.
The producers of the Blair Witch Project did a great job hyping up that movie because they made people believe it was a true story at first.
Hellraiser was scariest movie I've seen. It's around twenty years old now so it mighn't be as scary. Event Horizon was a cheesey knockoff without the scares. The Thing, was scary in it's day but sfx are dated and the only the theatrical cut is available. I preferred the alternate cut. Same goes for The Brood, that was freaky but a little dated now.
The Shining, The Ring. I'm think the psychological and ghost type stuff is a lot scarier than gore. The Silent Hill game on PS1 scared me pretty good. First time I ever got scared playing a game.
I think a lot of it has to do with how old you were. For example, the scariest movie for me was Jaws II, but I think I was seven. Poltergeist was scary, also.
The only two movies that have freaked me out are: 1) Blair-Witch Project 2) Exorcist of Emily Rose I hate scary movies.
Nightmare on Elm Street (saw it as a kid). More recently, I saw Silence of the Lambs for the first time about 3 years ago. It was on basic cable, so even though it was edited for content, I got so immersed into the story, I was scared sh!tless for about a week. My gf had been gone the whole day, while I stayed home, was flipping channels, and decided to watch. For a whole week, I was scared of my own reflection, thinking that I'd see Hannibal behind me. While sleeping, if my gf was sleeping w/ her back turned to me, I'd be scared to turn her to face me, thinking that perhaps Hannibal had removed her face. Walking outside my apartment, I'd be paranoid, thinking that any of my neighbors could be a psycho killer like Hannibal. At work, I usually worked late, so when leaving I was usually the last to leave, alone, and I'd be paranoid thinking that Hannibal could easily access the building, catch me off guard, and cut me to pieces. I'd get scared thinking of anagrams. Hell, I never even finished the whole movie, stopping at the part where he uses the guy's face as a mask, but the parts I did see were enough. A week later I was back to normal.
The original Japanese "The Ring". Do yourself a favor if you like horror films, watch it. I've only been freaked by 1 horror film my entire life and this is it.
Scariest movie I've ever is was IT it scares me to today, I never want to see it again. my favorite 'scary' movie even though it's not scary? Halloween.. though I like the chuckies and the classics like evil dead and night of the living dead and so fourth.
Blair Witch - watched this alone without knowing it was a hoax, scared the hell out of me. Sixth Sense - Spooky when the kid got locked in the room and you could hear something attacking him. Also when Bruce Willis continually turned up the volume on the recorder. The Ring - A couple of okay parts, could have been a lot better. Pet Sematary - Couldn't finish watching this as a kid. Child's Play - C'mon what kid would not get a little spooked around his toys after watching this movie?
The only scary movies I find scary are the ones dealing with the devil and/or demons. The first Omen, The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, etc. And 'scary' isn't really the right word for the way I'd describe. More like 'uncomfortable' or 'weirded out,' maybe. Requiem for a Dream had a similar effect, but for different reasons. I did watch a Ghost Hunters marathon several months back. That freaked me out a bit. Enough to have the lights on, anyway.
The scariest movies are those that involve everyday situations or occurrences. For example, I know a couple of friends who saw The Ring and weren't immediately scared. However, the first time they saw a snowy TV screen, they freaked out. I agree with Silent Hill being scary beyond belief. I made the mistake of playing this alone in a dark room. I don't think I ever put the game in a second time.
