Y'all know what I'm talking about. Whenever the first big cold front of the year comes in and we crank up the heater for the first time, it has a very distinctive smell. I personally love it. Always reminds me that winter is here. Thoughts?
At my mom's farm they have a wood burning furnace that heats the house. Smells wonderful, but it creates super-dry heat.
Fatty you are not alone on this. I was just thinking about this yesterday. It's the smell of the rotting corpse of summer. Or something like that.
I think anibiotics will clear that up... Damn Fatty, I thought I was a wuss when it came to cold weather. I haven't turned on my furnace yet. I can handle it inside, because there is no wind. I do love that "first time turning on the furnace" smell, though...
A possum died in my parents attic and they blamed the smell on the heater. We had to go retrieve the body, that was the nastiest thing I've ever done.
I love having a high powered quartz heater ready to blast me after a cold morning shower. Not very polarized about the smell of heaters...
That smell is the burning of dust buildup inside your furnace system. Since skin flakes are a large part of dust makeup, you aren't too far off with your description.
LOL...I know the smell! I can't believe you turned on the heater already! It's NOT that cold yet. I can't wait for cold to come.
I haven't turned on the heater just yet, because I just throw on extra blankets and comforters, it feels great when I wake up... makes me want to sleep in
