That's a reason why it spreads and grows so much, but it's not a cause of ignition.

The other day, a reporter was saying that it was a waste of time watering down your house because as soon as the water hit the roof, the wind would dry it off.

    It's been crazy dry lately.

Well w/o the LAPD you could have a totally uncontrolled riots where little mom-and-pop shops are ransacked, entire communities are burned, people are killed and the city, state and nation are all humiliated internationally.

    Oh wait....

MSNBC is reporting that over 900,000 people have been evacuated and that 25% of the California coastline is on fire

They are doing a special on 20/20 right now [ABC] about the fires and will be showing a big fire tornado and a history on one that killed thousands in Asia.

    That was the intro anyways.

They are saying that up to a million folks have been evacuated! That just boggles the mind. :(

Sometimes, when I see stories like this, I wonder if it could happen to the Austin area. Suburbs are exploding in parts of the Hill Country that I used to think would be protected from large-scale development. It may be a real danger during a drought. We can get those dry cold fronts out of the Northwest with high winds. People need to realize that this could happen closer to home.

During the peak of the drought on some show I was watching they were talking about what a tender box parts of Austin are -- West Lake Hills is particularly bad because of the high density, hills, and all the cedar.

Wow. This thing seems to have no end. It just goes to show no nice city is safe from natural disasters, including the one reputed to have the best weather in the U.S. Stay Safe, San Diego.
