Yes I think that is Scripps Ranch right? Those people just got evacuated like 30 minutes ago. Can you imagine having your house burn down TWICE in 4 year period?
best of luck to all those in danger and my sympathy to those who have already been effected. this time last year fires just whipped by our house by only a small margin and we are heading into the danger months again...its nasty, nasty business.
I bet lots of people who are upside down on their houses due to interest only loans and the real estate crash out there are hoping their house gets it.
La Jolla Indian Reservation is about 50 miles from La Jolla. The reservation is north east of Escondido and the rest of San Diego; it's getting the northern front of the Witch fire. The La Jolla near the beach is untouched with light smog and soot. No work today or tomorrow. Anyway, anybody want to take a road trip to Arizona to watch the Chargers-Texans game?
Thanks for the kind words... and remember, I'm not a guy who's going to be sucking smoke all day... more of a rear echelon kind of guy. Also, it turns out I'm not going today... one of the Incident Management Teams I've worked with needs someone with my qualifications to fill out their team, so I've hitched up with them. This is typical this late in the fire season... people go back to their regular jobs, have stuff scheduled, etc., so you get fill-ins and make a whole team. Because I moved this year, I'm not yet affiliated with a team in the NW and can be a fill-in. We'll go on the board this afternoon or tomorrow morn... probably to be staged in case of new starts or if they see winds in the 10 day forecast. Sounds like the worst part is over. Now down to 25 mph gusts, which is still not great, but you can work in it.
My friend's from there - she moved to Austin last year, but her family is still there - last time they were very fortunate and their house wasn't damaged. They're thinking they won't be so lucky this time around. So horrible.
If you click on the links on the left, it lists how many firefighters (1200 fighting one fire!), how many homes destroyed, etc.
The two fires closest to my aunt's house are now 100% contained (according to the little links in the google map). Sheesh... I hope this is over quickly. Good luck, y'all.
I live in Anaheim, orange county. You could really smell the ash in the air right now. The closes fire to where I live is about 20 miles away in the Tustin Hills/Santiago Canyon area. But I have friends who live near Del Mar in San Diego and they had to evacuate. I also have family near Riverside. I wish everyone the best of luck.
I live in Irvine and could see the Santiago fire close up. It was something else listening to the radio at 1 AM to see if my area was going to be evacuated. Luckily, the firefighters held the line, and the wind blew northward. I can't even imagine what it's like relocating to a stadium.
Japan attempted to set California on fire during WW2, sending incendiary balloons via the winds.....something to that effect. What's the cause of these fires?
