I just spoke with Mike at Chili's on 59 and Buffalo Spdway. Mike was very upbeat based on the fact that he has received calls from Dallas, LA, and Chicago. He stated that Houston was trying to move Lucas, Butler, Snyder, and Reed in order to keep from waiving him. However, teams are trying to stall the Rockets out knowing they have to cut 4 players plus potentially move 2 more in order to gain a starter (Morey is greedy, gotta love it). Les also doesn't want to pay the luxury tax. He also stated that Rick Adelman thought the decision was BS and felt like the Rockets should/could have made room for him. He said the Rockets didn't play him the last 2 games because if he was hurt they would have to pay him his salary. I wished him good luck and I hope the Rockets don't lose him permantely. As of right now, he's undecided if he's going to wait on the Rocket decisions.
thanks a lot man,i really like this guy, hope that the rockets can trade some players and make room for him sooner rather than later
they are trying to move Bulter, so maybe that means the rockets don't like his attitude at all, and they are probably lookin for a bigger body to back up Yao and Mutombo.
If all of the above is true, this really stinks. I completely agree with who the Rockets are trying to move it will be bad if they lose Harris just because the other guys were guaranteed.
Best of luck to Mike. For my money, I'm with Adelman and not with Les. This moves screams of Les not wanting to pay extra salary and luxury tax. I will refrain from going crazy, though, since Les already did paid a lot this offseason. Besides, Mike Harris doesn't project to be a rotation guy, and Les probably doesn't want to pay extra to upgrade the quality of non-rotation guys. Yes, Adelman and I may like Mike Harris a lot... but it's not Rick's money and it's not mine, either. In any case, I guess this is the downside of taking on the Butlers and Reeds of the world in order to get Mike James and Luis Scola. Mike should try and find a team that woudl most likely afford him playing time, whether it's a good team or, more likely, a crappy team. I think that would be LA, especially once Kobe leaves. Mike Harris = New Lakers Star! Then again, having Mike might mean Kobe wanting to stay so he can play with Mike Harris. If Mike doesn't hook up with an NBA team permanently, though, I hope the Rockets make enough in-season moves to clear a spot for him. The guy definitely can play.
Feigen made a comment in his blog that Landry's salary doesn't double up under LT since he's a drafted rookie. Also it's funny how they were making such big deal about the Rockets heading into LT at Francis's press conference when they had signed Steve. I think Adelman loves his retreads. He keeps on referring to Vlade when reporters ask him about Yao, Shane can be Christie, either Alston or Francis can bring White Chocolate's flash, and just when he had found his new Corliss...
If Adelman loves his retreads so much, forget Shane being Christie. Christie is willing to be Christie right now. Also, I find Mike Harris' comment interesting... the 4 cuts PLUS 2 MORE in order to gain a STARTER?! A new STARTER? Like who?
Nonsense... it reflects Les hates paying the luxury tax. I disagree Morey being a rookie has anyting to do with it. I mean, didn't the Rockets give away a draft pick to dump, I think, Glen Rice's salary? Anyhow... it's how the finances work.
What do you mean by the highlighted section? We're looking to add someone to replace one of our starters?!
He didn't know we'd get Scola then. And he had no way of knowing how well Mike Harris would fit in either. You're blaming him for not being a fortune-teller?
