Wait until he matches up against Steve and Cat, instead of Mooch, who is playing HORRIBLE basketball.
Funny. Even a Jason Williams fan credits the poor defense rather than JWill's offense for his great night. Sounds about right to me.
Sorry, only the first sentence was meant to apply to you're quote. The second was just my opinion of Williams and directed more toward UB. rimmy, Maybe I am exagerrating a little, but he is definitely way down on the list. Even some of the guys he could be considered better than I would take over him, like Parker and Tinsley. Worse starting PGs than Jason Williams: Anderson, Hughes, Parker, Carter, Crawford, Blaylock
What would Francis and Mobley have done to stop Jason Williams? Trade wrist bands? Critics talk a lot of **** about Jason Williams's game: when he doesn't play well, he sucks; when he plays well, it's (1) by luck, (2) because the supposed top defensive player wasn't guarding him, and/or (3) "He just sucks!" Maybe this is less about Jason Williams and more about the critics. University (Where's Hercules when you need him?) Blue
Gee lets see...maybe Francis and Mobley actually PLAY offense and defense. They would have actually gotten within 5 feet of Williams while he was shooting, instead of leave him wide open all night. Williams also made quite a few layups off of direct steals from Mooch. While Mooch was trying to play with the ball right in his face he ripped it for an easy layup several times. Francis and Mobley do turn it over, but very rarely by having the ball taken right away from them for easy layups by the defender. The biggest difference between Francis and Mobley playing: Williams would have actually had to play defense himself! He didn't have to guard anyone the whole game, just watched Mooch pass up on wide open shots to drive in for a corkscrew layup. Williams even played SG guarding Mooch, while Brevin Knight and Tierre Brown were in. I would have loved to see him switching off guarding Francis and Mobley. He couldn't even do this, nevertheless score anywhere close to 38 points at the same time. Oh well, the Rocks play the Grizzlies several more times this season. It will be fun to watch the destruction our backcourt puts on theirs once Francis and Mobley return.
In what Rudy Tomjanovich defensive system -- did I say "system?" -- would Francis or Mobley come within five feet of any PG off the pick-and-roll? I have the game on tape, Jason Williams scoring thirty-eight points had little to do with the defense. Most of his shots were contested. That's called "playing defense." I'd like to see Francis improve, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. Jason Williams and Michael Dickerson vs. Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley. It would be interesting. Interestingly, only one of those four has not been in a Houston uniform. "Hey, Carroll, let's do something about that." University (2 3) Blue
