That pretty much covers it but me and the wife always get nice and toasted when we head to the one out here. Haven't been to the one in houston in years
Well, it's interesting... My son almost fell out of his stroller craning his head around to follow one... oddly clad female.
i'm going in a couple of weeks! i had fun the last time i went there. it was so muddy because it had rained the day before. so don't wear your church shoes if it rained the day before.
I haven't been in years. This might help... Before you go, plan ahead and decide which atractions you want to go to at which times. The last time we went, we just got there and walked around. We stumbled into a few interesting atractions, but we felt like we were missing all the good stuff. If we had planned, ahead of time, where we were going to be, and at what times, it would have been a lot more enjoyable.
When I think of Renaissance festivals, I think of Reno 911 now. Patton Oswald rocks. Funnel cakes also rock.
Check out the Dead Bob show and the birds of prey show was interesting. Most of the shows are not suitable for young children but some are pretty funny. I think the best thing about the Texas Ren fair is that it's an amazingly big place that's setup pretty cool which makes for a fun time especially on a nice fall day (like Tomorrow!) Pretty much you spend the day drinking beer, browsing shops, watching shows and people watching.
pretty much what me and wife do when we go. I miss the one in houston because it's during fall. Up here it on during the summer and there have been a few times it's been hot as hell out there
Ah...Festival! I haven't been to the Texas one in years (I worked it all through the 80s for 9 years). The best time to be out there was when the "mundanes" went home at night and the festival grounds became one big bacchanal playground. I don’t think they allow it anymore, but participants used to camp out all weekend and man it just got crazy at times. So many memories and stories. sigh... Have a scotch egg and check out the Sea Devil Tavern!
They still allow camping, though I've never done it. Always meant to, though. I went on Sunday of opening weekend this year with several of my friends. We all got obnoxiously drunk and went and heckled the jousting knights. We were in rare form. The audience paid more attention to us than to the show. Then we acted all shocked that it was fake. It was a good thing we went on Sunday so they had time to restock their beer. We did our best to drink it all. We got totally wasted and spent entirely too much money, but it was all worth it.
this year is the 20th year in a row I went to the Texas REN rest on opening weekend. We always camp out and have a blast.I miss the days you could just wander out into the woods and get stoned but I'm older now anyway and usually have my kids with me so that's not an option.
They aren't too bad. Around $5.50-$6.00 for imports and micro-brews. $5.00 or so for a domestic....tall boy. I spent over $100, but that includes food, games, that sort of thing. Getting drunk and throwing things at people is great fun.
What's the camping there like? Is it as much fun and debauchery as I've heard? As in a run down of your day, night, and the following day?
Check out Christof the Insultor if he is there. I was surprised at how vulgar most of the acts were last year. Don't get me wrong, they were hilarious, but it's definitely for a mature audience. And of course hoisting a few brews helps one deal with the weirdos.
The campground is huge. There is always a huge bonfire with drunken chicks scantily clad dancing and people blowing and twilrling fire. I've also seen numerous things out there so bizarre a description wouldn't do them justice. Lots of drinking and partying. There is also a "family camping area" where all the partying shuts down around 9 pm. I got there friday and steaked out an area for our camp. My friends got there friday evening and set up camp. We drank ate and hung out until late into the night. The next day we hit the festival then back to the camp ground. We partied at the bon fire and with some of our neighbors then I cooked some steaks over an open fire around 2 am then called it a night because I had to head out early the next day to make it to the texans game.
