Here is the quandry Morey and Adelmann have:

All the teams know we have to get rid of 4 players + Sura.
You can't trade players for draft picks except with teams under the salary cap.
We have to get rid of 4 of the following: Snyder, Harris, Butler, JL3, Novak, Head, or Landry. The only reason a team would give up an asset is if they thought the market was great for one of these players, otherwise, they will just wait to see who we let go. If we don't let go the guy they want then they might negotiate with us. I just don't see how any of the guys on this list are going to garner that much attention or anything of real value while the option to get the player for nothing exists.
It might be that instead of deciding which player is best, Adelman and Morey may just have to keep the guy that most teams want (Head or Snyder?) to facillitate a trade later.

The only way would be for a player that several teams might want, Head, Lucas, maybe JLIII. If its just a scrub for the end of a bench, I doubt anyone would talk to us at all.

There is no way head gets cut. He actually has value. Everyone else is on the bubble. You make a good point there will be no movement until the 26? when I think teams have to make their cuts. Harris might find a place on a team somewhere else.

    Players that will probably stay:
Landry, they spent too much money on his already.
Butler, they need insurance for yao and/or Mutombo.

Head and Snyder would be the reason teams would trade with us. They know that if they have to take on a few small contracts in order to get those players. Best case scenario is we get a few trades in, but its not an easy task. I still think we need Head. If we trade him the only players in the rotation that could hit a three are Mike James and Tracy.

If we had to make the cut I don't think it would be a big loss to cut Lucas, Butler, Reed, and Harris. I really like Harris, but I think he would be around later when we clear some space.

I don't think Butler's ready. Not now, not next year when Mutumbo is gone, so why keep him? I don't see him being anything special and if we need a backup center next year, we'll probably have to trade for one anyways.

I bet we could get bag of donut holes and $15 gift certificate to Golden Corral for Carl Landry.

    Golden Corral is good . . .

I feel really bad for him, getting drafted by us and being put in such a tough situation to make a squad.

This is exactly why all the "we need to trade 5 dudes for Kobe" threads need to stop.

They would trade with us to make sure they get a player they want, otherwise once cut that player can sign anywhere.

One scenario is for Les to pay some money to get a guy off his hands.

Shane Battier can probably hit a three.

We have strong faith in Morey to pull out another best trade in the history of the franchise. :D You know, there are so many negativity about NBA in the news these days, the do need a team with this starting 5 to refresh things up:

    yao, scola, batter, mcgrady, kobe

    :p

Yes this is very valid point.

It look likes we will have to cut the players that have the least pay, value, and upside potential.

Which I think will be Sura, JL3, Landry, Harris  , Novak but I would cut Reed instead of Harris.

teams that have multiple draft picks can trade them for more depth to their team.

Don't forget that teams don't know what other teams are doing and they might want to jump on an asset before others do.

Well, it's a good question, and several people have it on it: a team would trade with us IF they want one of of these guys badly enough to give up a little something in order to ensure they get him, and not have to try to outbid anyone. So, if the asking trade price is lower than what a team fears it might have to pay on the open market for the guy, then they would go ahead and do it.

That said, I have a question for people who know the CBA, etc:

Does 'Cut' equate to the same thing as 'Being Released From their Contract'?

In other words, if these guys are all guaranteed their salaries anyway, would it be possible to simply keep them under contract, but not on the roster?

The reason I ask is, inevitably, some player at some point will wind up getting injured, and it occurs to me that it might be beneficial to have a couple of these guys under contract and able to be brought back without a big hassle if the need were to arise.

Does the mere fact of not being on a roster necessarily make someone a free agent?
