Just thinking,we have one great team... Champ caliber, young good players with lots of talant and good coach. But.... there are things that might cause some serious problems this year. I see health as number one problem. T-Mac's back or knee,Yao's leg, foot? It's something that just happens and injuries damaged us very well this last couple of seasons. Then you have chemistry. You know Bonzi has an big ego,Francis and James too. If they don't get enough minutes on the court they will blame others for that. Not mentioning other guards also. It's not something that is alarming now but this can cause some serious problems and I hope it will not. I would really want to see NBA title coming back to ClutchCity after 94',95' something that every truly fan dreams of. So until season starts I would love to hear your opinions about this! Are there any other problems, what do you think? I'm sorry if it's long read, just wanted to post it
We have two great defensive assistant coaches..they used to be hell of defenders when they played in the NBA..i dont think defense will be too bad...turnovers and minutes i agree with
I agree our number one problem is health. With T-mac's back issue and yao's recent freak injuries health would have to be the number one issue. The other issue is that perimeter defense. This is going to be a problem like it was last year. We just arnt tall enough in the back court to take one big ones and big twos. Those would probably be our too biggest issues.
how fast they can master the new offense system, and i said "master" not "learn" because in west to compete in high lvl, while facing Spurs, Mavs, and Suns who have already played in their style for couple of years, just learning is not enough.
Also the concept that distribution of minutes will directly impact our chemistry. For example, you may see a player like Francis who I believe would love to make his teammates better instead focus more on scoring in an attempt to gain minutes. You may see Wells put up a lot of shots to guarantee him minutes, and perhaps a larger contract next year. I worry most about Francis and Wells because both players want to bounce back and earn that big contract which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that they are coming off the bench in limited roles. For guys like Alston, Hayes, and Head the competition should be great. For Mutombo, Wells, Francis, James, I am not so sure. Its in Adelman's hands to get everyone on the same page.
I agree! If this problem is somehow averted we will have in my opinion a very good year if not...... well you know what I mean.
Chemistry. With our depth we should be able to hold the fort in case of injuries. We did it last year basically on Tmac's shoulders. The past few seasons MJ, SF3, and Bonzi have all had issues, so just playing the percentages we could have at least one dissenter. Hopefully not. In fact, injuries could either expose our chemistry or further bring together the team.
why do you guys keep saying chemistry/keeping everyone happy? there is only one potential malcontent with francis. i guess james could get that way but he is clearly ahead of francis on the depth chart. also, this preseason hasn't showed any chemistry problems. yes they are trying to get the new offense and defense established but they have seemed pretty fluid so far. am i wrong here? and my biggest potential problem is health of the team.
Lack of experience in championship caliber play. We have an accumulation of successful individual players, but short of Scola, no other Rocket has the experience or has had the opportunity to show that they have what it takes to win in the postseason play. I include Adelman, who has proven that he can be a successful playoff coach, but has never won the championship. Some of his teams he had in Sacramento I thought had enough talent to get to the Finals at least.
Lack of athleticism in the frontcourt. Yao, Scola, and Battier are not exactly the best athletes in the NBA.
