Hello all, Well, I'm all set to graduate from college in about 2 weeks with a BS in CS. Have quite a bit of work experience, but can't seem to find anything, or maybe I just don't know how or where to look. Tried the Internet job boards and stuff, but nothing is happening. My internship ends tomorrow, and I'm pretty bummed. If any of you have any leads/suggestions/advice ... anything ... please let me know. Thanks everyone! Rockit
You (like me) picked the wrong time to graduate. I actually graduated in August of 2000, right when the job market started to go downhill. I spent over a year looking for something. I joined the Army. This wasn't a last resort for me, as I've alwyas had the desire to serve. They're paying off my loans, so its a pretty good deal. I ship on 01-17-02. good luck to you.
Get more loans and go to grad school. I know many people do this specifically because the computer science job market is in real bad shape right now. Hopefully, by the time you get out, it'll be much easier to find a job.
hehe gosh, it seems like yesterday when <a href="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17068&highlight=search">I was posting these threads</a>. I also graduated at a bad time -- this past May, with a BBA in Information Systems. The entire industry was laying off, and even though I'd searched since January, nothing worthwhile came up. I ended up in education. I'm a Computer/Network technician at my old high school, a debate coach and as of today, I'm teaching one class. As much as it may not seem like extremely lucrative, education is a GREAT place to work -- the people are nice, it's not quite as hectic as certain other jobs, the time-off is great, and the pay is not bad at all, ESPECIALLY compared to not having a job, or to most of the entry-level jobs around right now. Heck, of all my friends from college, I make the most
You still have a chance. You may be considered cheap labor in bad times. Check the Federal government in DC. Think moving to the big cities. Even the Republicans won't cut back the job opps.
Government jobs are probably the safest right now. Just move on in a year to a better job once the economy picks up. City of Austin has a few jobs
Hey, I am actually in DC, and I used to work in the government for NIST ... even they're not hiring right now. I've put in apps in other agencies and am waiting now. Now I'm thinking that I'll take some time off and goto Europe and look for work there Thanks everyone for the responses.
vegeance: Glad to hear things work out so well for you. Rockit: No help, but good luck . I really feel for you... most of my friends who aren't going to grad school are completely terrified.
Cohen, Any web dev language ... ASP. PHP. Perl, JSP, graphics, Umm, what else ... C/C++, Oracle, Sybase, JAVA, anything to do with Linux/Unix ... shell scripting etc. That's all I can think of for right now. Thanks
