Yes, but the difference is we have BOTH Tracy AND YAO. While we didnt run the Triangle like the Lakers, JVG's system or style principles were similar; we dump the ball in and have 3 point shooters on the outside. Again, it doesnt matter WHO our coach is or WHAT system we would or ran last year, we just DIDNT have the talent.
Why not? He was honest as a analyst when he was here. I thought he was always a little critical of the rockets when he needed to be And he'll never get a job back with the rockets regardless...
McGrady may not show up for every big game...but has shown up for at least some. If it wasn't for him in game 1 and 2 of that Dallas series, they wouldn't have even had a chance at a game 7, which I recall was more about the lack of contribution from the supporting cast than it was from Yao and McGrady. And I don't know how much he impacts the players around him, but I do know that he's unselfish and the team is better when he's on the floor...look at their record when he's out compared to when he is playing. As for the motion-offense...I'd rather have an offense that is more versatile than simply dumping it down to the big man...because what happens when you're shooters go cold? You lose to an inferior team in the first round. If RA's offense can create easier shots, which I'm seeing it already is, then I'm all for that.
I realize you lose the context of it when you're just reading it....but I promise you this was a lot more than being "a little cynical." he got into a shouting match with a caller. the caller was defending McGrady...and Calvin was tearing him apart. the caller said, "hey, McGrady and Yao played just fine in that Dallas blowout. Nobody else stepped up." (That's how I remember it, too.) But Calvin said, "NO!!! GO READ THE BOX SCORE, BROTHER!!" It was just one thing after the other. It struck me as being way over the top. I realize Calvin is all about schtick...but even this surprised me...not merely what he was saying but how strongly he was saying it.
Coach Adelman will not employ a strict motion offense. We saw it first hand during the first pre-season game. The players were mixing it up. Even with the motion offense Yao touches the ball at least once on the high post. The difference is now the players on the floor have more options. The key is to run the play without turnovers, which the Rockets need to work on.
Calvin is a genuine playa-hata. He's mad because he doesn't have his announcing gig and clyde a adleman guy is in that position. He's ignorant for ripping the motion offense when the spurs who have won the championship 3 times the past several seasons have won playing this way. The reason they went to more motion was to spread things around so the defense wouldn't key in on duncan. Patience is the key here, This team has only been together for a few weeks and everybody here is on the panic listening to advice from a bitter little man who is mad because he wants to be in the limelight and is in serious need for attention. Adelman is a winnning coach. He has taken 2 teams to the NBA finals,2 other teams to the western conference finals and has over 700 + career victories one of 16 coaches to reach that plateau. I would trust in his vision over a play-haten,little man who needs someone to look at him.
I always thought Calvin was a little ignorant. While he was colorful and funny (at times), I don't think he made a good announcer for the Rox. He just didn't make sense a lot of times. However, Clyde makes him look like Chick Hearn.
Gotta love Calvin...but shoot some of his points are flat out wrong... From that 2005 game 7 against the Mavs, McGrady had 27pts, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3bs while Yao had 33pts, 10rbs and 5bs. No one else scored in double digits and only 6 total players on the team managed to even score at all.
Calvin is blinded by his love for Yao. He has ripped Francis apart when he thought we should go to Yao 100% of the time in offense. Now he is taking it out on Tmac. I love Calvin but this is too much.
I think he is wrong in all aspects accept ONE.. "he didn't show up for big games" That is where I think he is right.. When we need him in the clutch ( ala playoffs ) he is just playing as if it is a regular season game.. I have yet to see him say give me the MotherF%@$ing ball and I'm going to take it to these cats ( Killer Instinct ) he doesn't have it.. Luckily we have enough players with it that this could be the year we get past the 1st round..
Again this is where I think people have it wrong... Your the superstar.. Your the heart and soul of the team, You need to carry all the burden on your shoulders even if you scored that many points.. Hell if you had to score 50pts in that game 7 YOU DO IT.... that is the tag we put on a person like T-mac.. You give it all you got and leave nothing behind no matter what...
Nobody's saying TMac sucks. We all know the guy is incredible. The haters (which I am) just question his leadership and killer instinct. Too many times in his career he's had perfect opportunities to put teams away when it matters most, and he cracks like Jon Konkak's bottom (to quote DaDakota). I said earlier. Yes, TMac was incredible in Games 2 and 5 vs Utah. But why did he disappear in Games 3, 4, and 6? Why didn't he take over in Game 6 when Battier hit a 3 that brought us within 1 point with 5 minutes in the 4th? Why didn't he take over Game 7 after we came back WITH HIM ON THE BENCH late in the 4th quarter? Why did he admit like a pansy that he was tired during game 7? Championship players don't do that. Unfortunately, TMac isn't even a 2nd round player. If we don't get a top 4 seed this year, Tmac will earn another 1st Round exit, and maybe even a ticket to another city. The Rockets have never lost to an inferior team in the playoffs. We had a better record than Utah last year by 1 game, but they were clearly the better team. All 10 out of the 12 guys on their playoff roster could have easily cracked our rotation. They beat us in the regular season more than we beat them. They went through injuries throughout the year, especially at the end, that lost them homecourt. They made the Western Conference Finals and put up a good fight vs SA while Deron Williams was ailing. People are underestimating Utah right now because they lost Fisher, but with Kirilenko's increased role and Deron Williams still improving, coupled in with the development of Ronnie Brewer, Paul Millsaps, and CJ Miles, and drafting one of the most complete players in the draft in Morris Almond, they're going to be a tough out in the 1st round, regardless of who they play.
Tmac is a superstar, check all star appearances, scoring titles, endorsements. Calvin was all on Mcgradys jock when he was announcing the Rockets, it was always my man T-Mac. You guys can say Calvin have never won a ring, but neither has Rick. So it can be debated. However, I love a motion offense guys in the NBA hate run around chasing guys all over the floor, who would want to chase five Rip Hamiltons. Hope Calvin speaking from the heart not from hating.
I'm overtly critical of TMac, but that Game 7 wasn't on him. We were just too damn old. The Mavs had the homecourt. They had a bunch of superstars. We had a bunch of scrubs. That just shows what happens when you build teams on the fly, which is what we were forced to do. I do blame TMac for games 3 and 4 though of that series. Up 88-83 with 5 mins left in the 4th of both games, back to back, and you don't take over at home. That's upsetting.
Calvin never announced the rockets when we got mcgrady. He took a leave the season before and was fired when we got tmac, even though he was innocent.
Why do all blames drop onto Tmac? What about Yao? Yao got plenty of chances to save it too. He sucked, I mean, at least wasnt that good, in the playoff against Utah.
Because Yao works his butt off in the offseasons. He's always the first to practice and last to leave. He represents a nation with a population in the billions. And most importantly, Yao never makes bold statements to the media. None of that "Shaq can't stop me; it's on me; We're up 2-0, I'm happy to make it to the next round; I'm the best center in the league," etc.
