I went to the doc last week. He saw me for 2 minutes, gave me a prescription and sent me off. The common medicine he gave me is making me feel kind ancy (common side effect of that medicine). I call asking to get something else. I am told I have to make another appointment so I can be monitored when I take it (I cant even take it until I get it filled). I just want the prescription changed. It's not difficult. Should I be pissed? cuase I am. This is a time consuming rip off. I can't stand the last few doctors I have been to. I would just love to tell them all to f off.

Get regular insurance instead of an HMO, and then you might be able to find one doctor you like and stick with him or her.

You need to find a doctor you like.

I would recommend mine but you might mess thing up with her and then I would have to find myself a new doctor.

I have good insurance, it's the time more than the money.

Most of the time they call to verify.

Most of the time they probably have to call just to read the damn thing.

That's a little ridiculous. If you've already been there and it's already documented why you need the medication, they should be willing to give you a new drug since the justification for insurance is already in your file..

Call back and ask to talk to his nurse. Explain how you would prefer to change the the prescription for your diagnosis. It may work unless we are talking about contriolled substances.

I just always have better luck talking directly to the nurse. The last time, when I called begging for a refill (on a controlled substance) she called it in with 5 refills.

The docs are always busy, so I try to have a 'know your name' realtionship with the nurses. I think it makes them feel more important too.

Maybe (just maybe), they're the slightest bit worried that you're having a reaction to a common medication (even if it is "common"), and they want to make sure they're not endangering your health by merely prescribing a similiar medication (that can likely have similiar side effects) without evaluating the type of reaction you're having in person.

If the medicine isn't for something too serious, go to one of those med-stations at big chain stores. They are staffed by Nurses and they can prescribe antibiotics, pain and cough meds. Some take insurance, but only $59 for a visit otherwise.

    These are in HEB

I think CVS and Walmarts have them too.
