It is no great surprise. It seems to just kill Kenny to have to say anything optimistic about the Rockets. I guess he's been hanging around Charles too long. We're fifth, not in the league, but in the West. 1. Spurs. 2. Suns. 3. Mavs. 4. Jazz. 5. Rockets.

It is hard for me to understand rating the Jazz ahead of the Rockets, who barely beat them last year and did not improve at all in the off-season. Furthermore, Spurs, Suns, Mavs is getting pretty repetitious. Maybe one day some of these guys will grow an imagination.

What's worse is that one of his burning questions is "Can Tracy and Yao co-exist?" That has never been the issue. Kenny is like the kid in class who asks a question that was answered twenty minutes ago (in this case same answer has been given over three years!)

Preseason rankings are almost always just the end of season rankings from the previous year.

Maybe, but Kenny claims that they reflect a predicted order of finish as well.

Can Yao prove he isn't just another Shawn Bradley?

I think the Jazz answered during the playoffs. However, the equation went more like this. Deron + Boozer + Refs > T-Mac + Yao

I like Kenny but he is a moron when it comes to talking about the Rockets... and Barkley is the President of that moronic club.

    "can yao and mcgrady coexist?"

wtf does this mean? the jet is very, very critical of the rockets... i wonder why? it just seems like it's a chore for him to muster up anything positive to say.

Personally i rather be underlooked that way we are more likely to overachieve. I think its better to sneak up on the competition but I am tired of hearing how everybody hates the rockets. Honestly we are unproven. Steve francis is not near the same player that was here 4 seasons ago. Mike James is coming off a disappointing season. And our draft pick Aaron Brooks who seems to have so much potential is 4th on the depth chart currently. Scola seems pretty good but the Spurs traded him for a 2nd round pick and didn't think he was worth a roster spot. Maybe they made a mistake who knows. And I'm not saying Charles and Kenny Smith are good analysts but they have been right about us every year in that we still haven't left the first round. Every year players like vspan, novak, stromile, etc are suppose to break out but it rarely happens like we all think. The Rockets don't deserve to be ranked above any of those teams until we prove it on the court. The Jazz are a young team with improving players and the fact is they beat us last year without home court advantage.

To be fair, he said these are projections for playoff seedings.

The only teams he's projecting as having better record are the usual suspects, I'm not sure all this bashing is fair or even reasonable.

maybe the rockets will actually prove kenny wrong and show something more than #5 this year. who cares about rankings. and for what it's worth it wouldn't matter to me if we were ranked number 1 either.

    seeding, not record.

"My preseason rankings reflect potential playoff seeding, but some teams are better built for the regular season (like Dallas). Depth, age and experience all play a part on who dominates the regular season. Here's how I see the West with preseason play getting under way."

You guys are way too defensive.

Yes, but he shouldn't just base his predictions on last year's playoffs. If you take into account offseason acquisitions, you probably should pick the Rockets ahead. Projections are not supposed to be based on what team's have already accomplished (or not accomplished). They take a little guts and imagination, not just reciting old results. Kenny fails on this account.

Good point, but he also called these his power rankings. So, he isnt' only reflecting potential playoff seeding. At least that isn't what he communicates by calling it his power rankings.

here is the thing.....If yao and Tmac go on a road trip and have to pull over for gas, Yao will think that pumping the gas is just as important as paying for the gas.

    sincerely,
    kenny smith
