For those of you who want to know just how much hops Steve Francis has, along with Vince Carter and Larry Hughes...

The NBA is slated to introduce its latest technological breakthrough: "The Jump Meter"; for the all star weekends slam dunk contest.

Could make for some interesting watching.

i have espn the magazine from the start of the season and it states that francis has a league high 43 inch vertical...Vince should be really close even though he looks like he can jump pretty high proly cause hes taller too..

Didnt Jordan in his day have a 47-inch vert ? incredible. who else was a great leaper ? David thompson.

I also heard that Zo was a great leaper also (for a center) and of course Mcdyess out of the PF spot, i think his is well over 40 inches also.

Of course, in other sports, i have heard that Rob moore has a 45 inch vertical, and i believe karch kiraly (volleyball) has a near 50 -inch vert. Interesting topic to debate.

Darrel Griffith and Bill Willoughby each had 47-48" vertical hops.

Griffith was a guard and Willow a 6'8" forward.

I personally have a cool 1" vertical on a good day.

I heard Francis say on 610 that he hasn't been measured as a pro, but in college he could jump 37" from a standing still position and 43" with a running start (2 steps, I think). He also said it is probably higher now.

The one advantage Francis has in the dunk contest is his size...shorter guys always look better when they have hops.

    Darrell Griffith is the man!

According to the interview in the NBA archived Wilt Chamberlain claims he has a 50 inch vertical leap (Answer to the question "How did that feel to know that you were basically unstoppable?"). If he is telling the truth, that is got to be the record in NBA.

I think the NBA should award the trophy to the player with the highest vertical. I hope Lil Stevie shows up Carter. It's gonna be a total ripoff if Carter wins even though Francis has a higher vertical.

Eddie Robinson of the Charlotte Hornets also has a 43 inch vertical. He shuda been in the slam dunk contest also.

I heard somewhere that Francis had a 45 inch vertical, but a few inches here and there dont matter much.

It would be cool if Francis ended up having more ups than Carter.

    I think Dominique had a 48" vertical.

I don't remember what Spudd Webb's was, but it had to be pretty damn high.

Larry Nance could sky for a big man.(or for anyone for that manner)Stevie has the total package. He has that great vertical, but he carries everthing else too.By the time he has matured into the player he will become,He will be the not only the top point guard, but perhaps the best player this decade.(titles and Tiny?????)

Wilt was above a 7 ft high jumper. Unless they had holograms back then, he couldn't have faked that.

With verticals it is hard to have a lot of stock in the rumors. Still, it would be cool to know. I'll bet Iverson gets up pretty good too. Dr. J (who could take a quarter off the top of the backboard) and Thompson could definitely get up there, as could Nique and Webb. Anyone remember when the refs robbed Nique in the slam dunk contest because a Chicago competitor was in it. You can probably guess the competitor, but everyone knew Nique really won it on that particular day. After that event the best dunkers started avoiding the whole thing. Of non-BB players, TheFreak (that is Kerse, not the one posting here) and Randy Moss are supposed to really get up too.

sir scarvajal, i think iverson has a decent vert, but definitely not as explosive as stevie. Allen doesnt really have fancy dunks, of course he is also 3 inches shorter then francis.

Well the answer to your question he can touch 15 ft with his hand if not higher. I've seen him jump up close and believe me he can get up there!!!
