I am sure most of us here have played basketball, and the Monte Ellis thread got me to thinking, what was the worst injury I have gotten playing hoops.

Lots of bloody noses, black eyes, and a couple of chipped teeth, but my worst injury was about 3 years ago when I went up for a rebound and came down on someone's foot.

Broke my ankle......it took a year to fully heal.

    What about you?

A year ago I would have said a sprained ankle, but just recently I jammed my pinky finger. I know that does not sound like a big deal, but it has been. Its been well over a year and every time I bring the ball up to shoot and someone slaps down on the ball I re-sprain, or jam the thing. I have to tape it up and my pinky is about twice the size it should be. It just seems like every time someone tries to swipe at the ball my pinky gets caught and bent down, re injuring it. It has been one of the most annoying things to ever happen to me.

When I was little (about 10 or 11?) I went up for a rebound and someone undercut me.

I landed right on my tail bone and bruised my coccyx.

It took, in my estimation, about 4 years to finally stop hurting.

Plantar faciitis was horrible, but it only lasted a couple weeks.

I dislocated a finger, that really hurt too.

Nothing too serious or long-term though.

Torn acl playing pickup basketball at a downtown YMCA. I think I may have done some type of damage to it in high school during basketball practice, but it was back in the late 70's and I don't think it was properly diagnosed then.

I once missed a layup. Probably the most painful thing I've had to endure.

Sprained ankle that took about 8 months to recover from. Depending on the weather when its been raining and cold, it can still ache like its a fresh sprain. Oddly enough my worst injuries have been from softball games. All the waiting between at bats and on the field makes it easy to stiffen up, so when its finally time to kick it full speed, it's easy to pull muscles. Other than that, I jammed my index finger going up for a block, but partially grazed my fingers against the room doing it. That hurt for awhile too.

Exact same as you DaDakota. Went up for a rebound, landed on someones foot and tore all the ligaments in my ankle. I was at a training session out of state when i happened and we had just come from the airport. No one thought it was that bad so no one even bothered to help me carry my bags out. HAHA.

Went to the doctor but he said it was too swollen for Xrays.

2 weeks later during a physio session i told the guy that i had some sharp pains in my ankle, turned out that i had 2 separate cracks in.

Its all good now though, just the occasional tweak thats all. ;)

Really bad sprained ankle. Happened when I was jumping like crazy for a block. I kinda knew in midair that I was going to **** something up on the way down. Took me about 6 months to get back onto the court again and at least another 6 months before I felt whole again.

After that I decided to play with my feet mostly stuck to the ground and I haven't had any other serious injuries since.

I broke my middle finger and I injured my right knee which screwed up my alignment, led to excessive cartilage wear in both knees and arthritis in both by about age 22. I have never recovered (to be fair though, part of this could be genetic...but that injury really started it all and hurt like hell when it happened).

I was playing pickup basketball in college and saw a guy break his leg. I still remember the sound...just like a thick branch snapping.

I broke my ankle in a pick-up game going for a block shot and landing on a rock out of bounds. Pretty much ended my college ball days and never fully healed.

but my worst injury was doing something similar in a gym years later - i went to go say a ball, dived and did save it,but crashed into a wall and had to go to the hospital for concussion and bruised rib - that was painful...
