that horse has been beat dead a long time ago

console shooters sell a lot more than PC ones now...other than Half-Life 2 (I'm talking about within the past few years, ever since consoles got super popular with the PS2 gen)

I just forced myself to get used to playing FPSes with the console gamepad. it literally took like a year or so, but now I'm fine with it. you can do the same

Yeah I started out as a console fps gamer (quake, doom, Duke)...refused to go console...but when Halo came along and I played that, my mindset changed. The controls are very nice.

Oh sh-t, for the first time in the history of Halo 3 or Halo 2, I finally won a freaking ranked rumble pit match. Suck on that you teeenaged turds. And I work for a living too. Now I can die in peace.

Me too, the 360 is strictly for sports games.

    The PC...all others.

I dont know how anyone can play a FPS game and not be on a PC. There is no way in hell you can match the mechanics without a mouse and a keyboard...even if you use it for your console it just doesnt feel the same...almost glitchy.

Oh and BTW...Halo series sucks balls.

    Unreal Tournament owns!

I don't know, i guess all 2 million people playing Halo online in the past week must be total idiots for not hunching over their keyboard and clicking their way to glory on their alienware gaming rig, which offers a far superior simulation of the way space combat REALLY is....and they thought they were having fun...what a bunch of morons.

Well, even though there are a few gripes...I gotta say that there isnt anything better than getting in a fight with your girlfriend and turning on Halo to exhale. I blew up fools. Nice stress relief.

To the D-pad to talk issue:

You only have to nudge the d-pad in any direction to activate the team talk. It stays active while you speak and you have an audible -sst- sound when it deactivates. I have found it very unobtrusive and doing this frees the left bumper for other stuff.

But you can also customize the control scheme.

    To the assault rifle issue:

They got the assault rifle exactly right. One of the things they talked about in the Bungie updates and the Vidoc was the "Golden Tripod" of attack types, weapons, melee, and grenades. To be most effective, you must use at least two of the types. Soften the enemy up with grenades up front or charge in with the weapon and melee, both are quite effective.

You will definitely want another weapon in your arsenal, which will dictate the type of game that you, as an individual, play. If you pick up a shotgun or mauler, you will want to pick your fights in short and medium quarters. If you find the carbine or BR, you will look for more open situations.

The problem I have with starting everyone with a BR is that it changes the game from one which varies between long range and up close and personal. If everyone hs a BR, there is no reason to go for the shotgun or sword kill, everyone just controls their area with long range fire. That is the problem I have with MLG, they limit the game to a particular style where I think that in order to call yourself a good Halo player, you must be able to play a variety of different roles.

The maps that are big and open have plenty of BRs on them, so arm yourself well and happy Haloing!

I found the mauler to be almost useless, like an underpowered shotgun- has anybody here had success with it? I can't really figure out what its it's best use is either in campaign or multiplayer.

Or it could be that 2 million people cant figure out the way to build their own rigs so that a game can run properly and not look as glitchy, waterdowned, or jaggy as it does on a console, without overpaying Alienware to do it for them. Guess it goes hand in hand with buying a console.

And really your b****ing about being hunched over their keyboard, when most of the people playing console versions of the same games are doing the exact same button mashing their way to glory? Im sorry, hunched over their couch as opposed to a comp chair....

    World of Warcraft

Indisputably, Blizzard Entertainment has set a very important precedent with World of Warcraft. As of January 2007, World of Warcraft surpassed 8 million subscribers and come July 2007 the game hit 9 million subscribers worldwide, with the latest expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, still awaiting launch in China and with the new add-on Wrath of the Lich King on the way. About two months ago it was confirmed that PC gamers played World of Warcraft more than four times as much as any other PC game. If that's not sufficient evidence, you should also know that certain WoW-based web sites are amongst the highest ranking online publications on the Web. For instance, the WoW oriented web site, WoWHead, has recently been sold for over $1 million and ranks high up on Alexa. However, when it comes to Blizzard's games it's not just about Warcraft. The company proudly declared Battle.net as one of the largest online gaming networks with "millions of active users," which, reportedly, outpaces even Xbox Live. It was recorded that by September 2004, Blizzard active user count was up to nearly 12 million, all of which spent more than 2.1 million hours online each day. At the time, the network had 200,000 concurrent users.

Naturally, like all popular games, even World of Warcraft had to be the victim of finger-pointing at some point. To this day, WoW remains the most frequent topic to trigger stories of game addiction. In summer 2006, for instance, two parents from Korea were accused for neglecting their child because of their excessive WoW playing. They faced criminal charges after their baby daughter died when they left her alone to play WoW in a local LAN shop. (Ultimately, it's better for people like that not to procreate. Did I sound like a Nazi just now? - Ed) That same summer, according to observations of one Dr. Orzack, a clinical psychologist at McLean Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts, up to 40% of WoW players are addicted. Mind you, this idea is not based on any actual evidence or player survey - in the end, it was just regarded as an opinion, based upon Orzack's experience and observation of the problem.

Lets not forget about CS, and Unreal Tournament 3 coming out. Either way its not like console fps OWN and the switch is on to this way of thinking. Plus I need more challenging players then the drods of uber nOObs trying to frag away with their joysticks...lol.

Easily my favorite new weapon. It works better than a shotgun when dual wielded, lessening the necessity of grenades. It also works EXTREMELY well when used up close and followed by a melee.

Seems like a load of crap to me to be honest....I understand it...but I think it's a load of crap :p The assault rifle is largely an inaccurate piece of s*** weapon...combined w/ the grenades it's good for sloppy kills...I like precision...I like headshots, well placed rocket attacks, perfectly timed melees....not just storming into an area chucking grenades and finishing a guy off with a spray of fire.....that's kind of annoying and seems to favor the less skilled player.

....eh maybe I complain too much...a kills a kill. :p

As for the mauler...you definitely have to dual wield it be effective...when dual wielded it's more powerful than a shotgun, but one by itself is weaker.

My biggest gripe so far is the muddy 20th century graphics.

Ive used the mauler when I really dont have another option...but there are 3 instances where I turned a corner and was confronted right up close and personal. One shot is all it took to finish them off. Feels so good.

The Mauler owns, especially when dual wielded. I hate the sniping. Now I have to line them up and actually wait for the smoke trail to disappear before I move my scope, and playing on sensitivity 6 makes it really hard for an erratic player like me to sit still.

It also seems that I have to work way too hard for a kill, yet I can take only 3 bullets from the assault rifle and be killed after a melee or a slight graze from a bomb. My assist to death ratio is probably way better than my kill to death ratio(1.02). I stay with a 12+ assist game.
