    Hey guys and gals.

A friend of mine used to own a bar called The Buffalo Club and Colorado Room, and we are thinking about reopening a bar in that same location.

It is on 7th street about a block up from I-35 and right across the street from the big parking lot there.

What I was wondering is if anyone remembers that club and what type of bar do you guys think would work in that space?

    Thanks,

    DD

It was a dance type of club with a large outdoor patio in the back. I am just not sure what type of theme would work there, and I hear there is nowhere for Rockets fans to get a beer and watch the games in HD, we are in Spurs country, so I could remedy that situation.

    :D

What kind of theme for a bar on 7th street? How about cheap drinks and hot women? That seems to work in that area.

Get a short term lease and make sure you get an attorney to approve it before you sign. My dad is going through a commercial lease nightmare right now.

    Good luck.

.... he said 7th Street, so that would be hot drinks and cheap women.

I remember that place. Fantastic Long Island Ice Tea's, IIRC. Used to start my night off there with one before heading to 6th.

Also, IIRC, there isn't that much foot traffic on 7th. Most are parking and heading south. You're going to have to stick out somehow. Live music would be a natural and a welcome site with the dwindling options on 6th street.

It certainly would be nice to have a Rockets/Texans/Astros place in town.

Also, I say screw downtown. There is a severe shortage of bars in N. Austin. Other than Sherlocks, there isn't a decent place to go.

I remember colorado room back in the day and loved it there....of course it got shut down for the reasons why it was probably so much fun, all under-age people there.

I am pretty good friends with manager of Cheers and maybe he could give you some tips, but to be honest I dont see that location doing that well anymore. Was actually in austin last wknd and noticed the bar next to where colorado is re-opened and it looked dead. I just dont see college kids or even older crowds venturing up that way unless they are parking.

I really want to open a bar in Houston but havent followed through on it yet...

i think that if you wanna open a bar really close to 35, it should definitely be a low priced bar heavy on the reggaeton

only ghetto people hang out right be 35

Make it Austin-trendy and you'll draw folks in; you're certainly close enough to 6th street.

I always liked clubs that were hoppin' yet had those comfortable nooks you could retire to and actually hear your date talk .... :)

oh, and make certain the entrance area is clean... haven't been on 7th in a while but I wouldn't have ventured to a bar there since it was always dirty as h*ll around there.

Oh, and be sure to book that hot new band 'Orange' something... ;)

DD- Why did your friend decide to close/sell the old bars? Has the location been unoccupied this entire time? Or have other bars come and gone?

If I remember correctly, it's somewhere between Red River and 35. Isn't it a pretty big place? The trouble is, you have to pack the place because nobody wants to go into an empty bar or club.
