So, did anyone catch Pushing Daisies, the series premiere last night? Read a preview in the Chron yesterday, and recorded it, watched it this morning. I LIKE this show! Hopefully the next shows will be able to keep the hilariously bizarre flair of the first one. It's probably not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it hit me just right. Anybody else see it, wanna weigh in?
I tivo'd it, but haven't had a chance to watch it. Interesting premise. On another note, I hate Tivo. Last week, it didn't record The Office despite it being my second show under 30 Rock. And last night it didn't record Dirty Sexy Money. Ugh.
watched it and liked it. And the blond neighbor girl was on Jay Leno a few nights back...she must have been on speed or something, but she is hilarious in that crazy kind of "this person must be an idiot" kinda way. Anyway, the show was really quirky and fun. Had a real Tim Burton feel to it. The narrator is actually the guy who does the audiobooks for Harry Potter (and he's won a bunch of awards and is even in the Guiness Book for that...he's really good) and the show also kind of felt like the film Lemony Snicket.
she's a strange one...perfect for the show, though: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NlaoWm6UpMI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NlaoWm6UpMI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_t15t_9DTno"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_t15t_9DTno" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
IMO it was a very well put together show, it plays more like a move so we'll see how that it holds up for the long haul.. I like the look and feel of the show, but it struck me as bordering on the line of a family show.. I don't think I will continue to watch, but I hope it does well.
Basically, this guy can touch and dead person, find out how they died, and he touches them again and they go back to being dead. He's apparently using this skill to obtain rewards given to those providing information to how someone died. That's just what I've gathered from the commercials.
I just caught the last 5 or so minutes of it waiting on Dirty Sexy Money. Those 5 minutes of the show were......strange. Can't say I got much of a feel for the show except to know it is not your run-of-the-mill program. Dirty Sexy Money, on the other hand, has really left an impression on me. I didn't have any interest in it from the previews, but my wife watched the first episode and I caught enough of it to realize that the previews belie a great deal of what will make this show great if given a chance. It's similar to Nip/Tuck in that it deals with a lot of scandalous stuff that raises eyebrows and piques interest, but underneath all that is a core of deep ideas and concepts. In last night's episode, Donald Sutherland was fantastic. I hope the show makes it. Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread I just read where RM95 mentioned the show and thought I'd give my thoughts.
In HD the show is eye-candy. The story was ok. It felt like someone who wasn't Tim Burton was trying to be Tim Burton.
It was definitely Tim Burton'esque, but I'll give it a few more weeks to decide if it is worse or better then Burton. I'll probably watch the whole season though, via Tivo. I think it has the potential to be better. Add in funny little things like "Boutique Travel Travel Boutique" and "Darling Little Darlings"....I thought stuff like that was great. The true background of the story, with the guy's ability, etc....you're right, will take a little while to flesh out.
Stylistically, it reminds of the movie "Big Fish". The visuals in HD are great. And there's some good situational humor in addition to the quirkiness.
