I love my DirecTv, but at the same time I don't have HD channels. I wasn't going to pay $300 for an HD/DVR receiver, so I just got the free DVR receiver. HD is overrated IMO, but to each his own.
It will most likely come on Halloween night from this guy, who used to be your friend, but now is too cool to hang out with you. Spoiler
EVERYBODY STAND BACK...we got a very serious situation here. does anybody have any cure for such ignorance?
HD is definitely NOT overrated. I currently have DirecTV but do not have any of the HD features because it costs so damn much. It is much, much cheaper on cable in my area (SuddenLink).
It wasn't a big deal for me. I had the full Direct TV package for 120 bucks a month. I upgraded by receiver for 99 bucks and added the 10 dollar a month package for all the HD channels. It started with a handful and is climbing all the way to 100 by the end of the year. Now back to ESPNHD........
I understand they are changing technologies to offer the new hi-def and that is the reason I have to upgrade. However, I don't agree with how much they are wanting to charge for the process. IMO, I should be allowed to trade in my old DVR for this new DVR...FOR FREE or a minimal cost...NOT $300 while I'm stuck with the old DVR. Then, I suppose they want you to use the old HD DVR in a bedroom and buy another HDTV. Then, they can charge you monthly fees on now having two HD DVR receivers. Their trying to pull another Donald Miller scam. They broke my HD DVR once before...when I was a kid. I had to carry my receiver all the way to the DirecTV outlet. We were all friends then. Yea, I cried the whole way. Now, their picking on me cause I want their new HD channels on another satellite. It's stupid, man. I know...cause I wanted to be there. New HD channels...old HD channels. It's all bullsh*t. It's hard enough just trying to be myself. Anyway, it was mentioned somewhere that they are offering discounts to their loyal customers. I will call them up and see what their going to do for me. If I don't like it and the offer is sweeter on the other side of the pasture, then I may have to switch providers.
More like a iPhone vs. a Nokia. Some of us don't give a s***. And I've seen plenty of HD programming. The technology isn't here yet. In 5 years, 90% will be in HD and the people who didn't need the newest "thing" will get a free receiver and let the others who needed it "now" pay for all the new satellites.
You can get a new DVR HD receiver for free, plus the new dish needed for MPEG4. All you have to do is call DTV, threaten that you will cancel, they will give you the new receiver/dish. I also managed to get 3 months free premium package. Good luck.
I didn't read the whole thread, but I did see that you have an HD Tivo and are upset that it doesn't support the new MPEG-4 HD Channels. I was in the same boat as you and I called them about 3 months ago to complain. Without much hesitation they offered me their new HD DVR absolutely free. I then turned around and sold my HD Tivo on ebay for about $225. Then just about a month ago I convinced them to give me Sunday Ticket this year for free, plus Superfan. And all of the movie channels free for 4 months. DirecTV is really good about giving free stuff, you just have to ask. If the first person you speak to says no, ask to talk to someone in the customer retention department.
anyone know of a good website that will help me get all the dishnetwork channels for free? anyone have experience with this and dishnetwork in general? thanks in advance.
Just google Dish FTA, personally it is way too much of a hassle if you have no idea what you are doing.
Man, that was a pain in the butt. I spent like half an hour talking to one lady who kept telling me I should be getting the new hi-def channels on my existing equipment. Then, I had to kindly explain to her how that was not possible. This...after her asking me to try to pull up some of the new hi-def channels. So, then she was adamant that I had to pay for the HD DVR receiver and a dish. I was like...uhh...no way. I had to go through the whole spiel...blah blah blah...Dish HD offers free HD DVR, I just paid for my current HD DVR two years ago, I've been with you'll for a decade, etc. . The whole time...this lady keeps putting me on hold. After a while, she finally figured out that...boy...I would need new hardware after all. Umm...thanks. So, after thinking I'm playing "let's make a deal" with her, she says I can't offer you any kind of deal. But, I can transfer you to someone who can barter with you. Wow! I finally get to talk to someone who can get me somewhere. I guess I don't blame her...but that part of the phone process seemed futile. So, finally get a guy on the phone who knows what he's talking about. We go through all the motions about Dish HD PVR is free. He countered with "we will be offering many more channels than them by year's end and into next year...blah blah blah" and "we will lead everyone else in what we offer HD". So, he wouldn't want me to miss out. LOL. Mmmkay. Finally, some deal-making going on. The best I was able to get was $99 plus tax for the complete job...including latest top-of-the-line HD DVR, new dish, installation, and re-location of my existing older HD DVR. And, they can be out in a few days to install it. I guess that is the best I can do. I maybe could have pushed more but he basically gave me $200 off (it didn't appear I was going to get it for free regardless) and, to be frank, I really tire of the whole hour long phone upgrade ordeal. This...after two previous failed attempts of being put on hold where noone came back after a long period of waiting. So, there it is. The End. Bleh.
