Actually I think Mock is a very good comparison to Colt. Some of you act like Colt is some highly touted qb. The kid was only a 3 star recruit coming out of high school. He is ok, but by no means great. We need to start planning for the future.
Not true. Texas is tied for the the best winning % since 1998. But not since 1999 or 2000. Texas is also tied for best winning % since 2001, but then not 2002 or after. This is one of those really misleading stats.
I don't think it's very misleading. I would hope at least that anyone using that stat isn't trying to say that Texas was the best team in the nation from 199x or 200x to the preset. All it indicated (at least to me) is that Texas was consistently very-good to excellent over that time period. And frankly I think the same would be true for any school that was in the top 5 in winning % over that same period. Clearly Texas has won (and played in) only one national championship game in the recent memory but I think it's fair to say they have "competed" for several others. If a team finishes in the top 5 of the BCS rankings at the end of the year (which I think Texas has done 3 times but not sure) then they were certainly in competition for the title that year. I will agree with Refman on one thing though. I read posts all the time from Texas fans about how UT has outgrown the Big XII and that Texas needs to join the SEC, PAC 10, or Big Televen. Perhaps if UT had a slightly higher number than 2 Big XII championships that would strengthen their case.
I agree. Three NFL lineman last year and a fresh QB and they run mostly the same stuff, ridiculous. Nobody can say the Oline wasn't great last year, and the offense still had major hiccups (OSU, A&M, and some other near losses). I wasn't totally sold on McCoy last year even on the hot steak, still not. I don't think he is bad, but I certainly didn't think Texas should stop recruiting QBs for a couple of years. Well, McCoy is the one who is supposed to be the cerebral QB, the coaches son. Audible out of the bad plays. KSU knew what he was going to do, that is more like Chris Simms than Major Applewhite. I personally am not impressed with either OC or DC. Very predictable. UT is a top 5 program because Brown and staff are a top 3 Spring program. Unless the get a QB with a great improvasional ability (pass-run threat, or great mind to check out of bad plays) I see the offense as pretty limited. DC deserves crit as well. Way too vanilla and typically passive, and when the blitz comes, it is obvious. I am not too upset about the loss though, in no form did this look like a championship caliber squad.
Tech is going to own UT this year. Expect Tech to go 9-2 on our way to the Cotton Bowl. I'm seriously irritated that Crabtree missed that catch against Ok St. Otherwise, our game vs. OU would have National Championship implications.
Chris Simms is 10x the QB that McCoy is. McCoy has no zip on his passes and no range. Simms at least has an NFL Arm. They've regressed on the QB talent.
They didn't stop recruiting QB's. Two years ago, Ryan Perriloux backed out at the end because he didn't want to sit behind Vince Young. Last year, Jevan Snead was the more highly rated QB but left because he didn't want to sit behind McCoy. This year, we brought in John Chiles. They've had a good QB recruit each of the past three years - but they just haven't stuck around for various reasons.
Funniest thing I've seen all day. By my count, you've got 3 losses waiting for you...@ Missouri, @ Texas, and OU. Heck, @ Baylor is a question mark, too. It's going to be yet another 7-4 season at the Houston Bowl for the most overrated coach in college football. At least you'll get to see them in person.
That is true, but a point I made to so UT alum is that Mack should have gone after some of the lesser QB talent for depth. There are some kids in the state that would rather hold the clipboard at DKR than play at SFA or Sam Houston or leave the state.
I wouldn't be too sure about that. I dislike Tech as much as anybody, but they have a pretty good ball club this year.
