Just in case this hasn't been posted yet. The rankings seem pretty fair with the Rockets at 4. I'm not sure if Boston can be that high with nothing proved yet.

we haven't proved anything either, for the record.
I wouldn't put boston that high but they're definitely top 5-6.

Hornets should at least deserve a spot in the top ten. Injuries plagued the team last season and imagine what they could do with a healthy squad.

BTW, I will put Rockets above the Celtics.

No way in Hell Dallas should be below Houston, Boston, and Detroit.

I think Dallas should be number 2.

I think the logic behind Dallas being so low, is because after they lost to Miami in 06 they started out in a funk at the beginning of the next season. Last year they lost in the first round, so Stein figures the funk will be even longer this year.

Let them start a new winning streak and they will zoom zoom zoom up the power rankings yet again.

Ranking itself is ok as long as using same criteria. especially, ranking before the season starts should completely base on position by position analysis plus coaching capability of a team. Only team you might be able to put on the top of the list w/o too many questions is the last year champ.

MS used different standards on different teams to rationize his power ranking. it clearly shows his personal dislike/like. I don't think he likes mavs. that he picked celtics at #2 indicates he really wanted KG to wear a ring. Who doesn't? KG deserves something special.

since this is rox fan bbs and we are at top 5, i am ok with his ranking.

Dallas deserves to be bumped down after that playoff loss. The Celtics are a bit too high, though ... it's a stretch to rate them higher than the Rockets, let alone the Suns.

I believe were right where we should be at #4 because we were the 5th best team in the league last yr and with all the changes we should be around 4th since we've proved nothing yet.

Marc Stein loves Dallas. I think he is a beat writer for the Dallas Morning star. The reason he put them so low is because of their chokefest last year and that they havent gotten any better this summer. Eddie Jones? Brandon Bass? No Terry Trade? Devin Harris getting a rediculous extention? yeah Dallas wants to keep their core of chokers going for another year.

What? Are you kiddin' me? After that trade everybody thinks Boston is the best. But everybody who know what this game is about should know that they have only 3 superstars and nothing else. We should know from the last year what "no bench" means. I won't be suprised if Boston won't be as effective as everybody thinks....

Ok Rox number 4 - I agree, but Boston 2, Pistons 5 and Mavs 6?! LOL

I completely agree with you. Depth is what wins you championships. The celtics have so much hype right now that they are almost certain to disappoint if they dont get a top 2 spot in the E Conference. What happens to them when they get an injury to anyone of the injury proned and/or aging garnett, allen, or pierce. Kendrick Perkins is gonna get abused by almost EVERY Center in the the league. And Rajon Rondo is gonna get the Rafer Alston treatment because he cant hit a jumpshot to save his life. Ray Allen isnt as quick as he used to be and i wouldnt say any one of these players needs to be double teamed if you have decent defenders at their positions, which the rockets do have in scola, battier, and mcgrady.
