Sounds like a good idea. I want it to be valid. Thanks, Fatty.

Trader_J, I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll send Clutch the original check with "void" written across it, and send a new check for the $50 bucks. If he doesn't get it within a week and a half (I don't know how well he checks his mail, being a very busy guy), he can post here and make me look the fool. And if he feels like doing it, he could post that he recieved it. That would be nice, but he certainly doesn't need to on my account. Thanks for the "benefit of the doubt." I'll ignore the mild slap from you. After all, I'm the goofus who's had this thing in his wallet for over a year, and it looks it. Fair enough?

Back for more with no admission that your whole premise for starting this thread is a steaming pile?

    OK, I'll play.

Searched kos using the keywords "Dartmouth debate." A bunch of diaries (threads) came back, but not one dealing with the bible question.

I also waded through the 556 comments in the "Post Debate Poll and Thread" diary and came up with less than 20 comments on the bible question and answers. Of those, one troll-like comment calling Obama an atheist (do you have an account over there TJ?) and a number of folks suggesting different answers, such as...

    Matthew 6:5 --

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

I couldn't find anything remotely resembling what you assert in the above post.

Uh...I think the religion is based on Christ, not the book. I think we all know what Jesus is about and what he taught without being able to quote a specific verse.

Did Christ instruct his followers to memorize verses?

And what's your profession? Are you good at it? I bet you can't quote paragraphs from the leading texts, yet you know what you're doing.

It's the expert mentality. If we watch the news, we don't believe the reporter as much if he starts explaining the intricacies of cloning. But if the producers bring on a pundit who's Professor at BSU, then more people will believe the content.

A religious candidate will appear more trustworthy than some schmoe who preaches justice and equality for all. It's simple shorthand for the premise that all politicians are lying bastards, but those who preach God at least have some fear in divine punishment. Our sad state is because most voting Americans are too impatient, too overburdened with other personal concerns, and too apathetic to the disgusting face of politics.
