Define "top jobs?" It's definitely a top 20 job. What does a coach want? Resources? Check. Tradition? Check. Recruiting base? Check. Rabid fan base? Check. Weird, cult-like rituals? Check. Franchione was at one time a big time coaching prospect remember...
Serious question to Aggies...do ya'll think firing Fran would help or hurt recruiting? Y'all have suprisingly put together a nice 2008 class even though a couple have de-committed. But there is some talent that committed there thinking Fran would be at the helm, I wonder how things would change. A&M does have it's draws (money, facilities, recruiting hot bed) but I don't think you can even compare them to a ND, Florida, or Alabama. And if ND and Alabama didn't get their first choice, I find it hard to believe A&M would either.
No one in this thread has suggested that A&M is as good a job as ND, UF, or Alabama, nor has anyone said that A&M would get whatever coach it might want.
Absolutely - but Urban Meyer got lucky that two major programs had job openings in the same year. How often does an ND, Florida, UT, OU, USC, etc job pop up? If you're an up and coming coach, you're not going to wait years on end at a Utah or Boise State hoping for a chance at that type of job because you never know when it's going to pop up. One challenge for A&M might be that the LSU job might be open if Les Miles goes to Michigan (or possibly the Michigan job if he doesn't).
Wait a minute ... who here says A&M is just going to grab any coach they want? Bottom line is that the A&M job is a good job and we can get a good coach and be much much better than we have been lately. Do you really dispute that?
We've had good recruiting classes lately, but Fran's offense and defense just doesn't work and has been figured out by any team with any athleticism. I still have no idea hoe Texas couldn't win at home last year. So keeping recruits has no effect because fran couldn't do anything with them anyone. Time to bring in a coach with a real college offense and defense.
Check out some of the A&M boards and tell me if this is true. I wasn't aiming my post at any particular person in this thread but there have been some comparisons made to those schools. Also...names like Spurrier, Kubiak, Rich Rodriguez are being mentioned and so I guess some people are considering that they could get any coach it might want. But these are message boards and everyone has their opinion so whatever.
We couldn't win at home last season because Colt was hurt but I blame this on Mack more than anything for not giving Snead at least some garbage time in blowouts. I guess my question is do y'all think some recruits will de-committ if Fran gets canned? I guess it would come down to who would replace him.
and i think were was a mention of john lopez saying something similar. he made the comment the other day on his monsters of the midday show that they were among the top 10 programs in the country. yeah, no.
I've heard there are at least 3 or 4 that would be gone for sure. I guess we have to try 1 step back before we can go forward though.
yeah florida state is more known then a&m. the seminoles have actually won some games lately. been in bcs bowls. didnt they finish in the top 5 several years in a row. when was the last time a&m was in the top even for a week. and check out the graph that another person posted a&m was ranked 46 right next to wyoming. florida was ranked 12th big bid difference. i have lived in a few states and i still have yet to meet anyone that looks at there school or sports teams with more clouded eyes then the good ole' aggies.
Ya...also another point that I don't think has been mentioned is the job openings that could come after the season. 1. LSU- If Miles leaves for Michigan, they would have their pick for sure. 1a. Michigan- Many are assuming Miles will take over, but if not... 2. Auburn 3. FSU- Rumor is that Bowden will be back 4. Tennessee 5. Arkansas I can't say that all these teams will fire their HC but Michigan/Miles/LSU will shake things up a lot as at least 1 Elite Team will be looking for their next HC.
Here is how I would rank Big 12 football in tiers (no particular order): First tier caliber programs: UT, OU, CU, NU, A&M Second tier caliber programs: Tech, K-State, OSU, Mizzou, KU Third tier caliber programs: ISU, BU
here's how i'd rate them: first tier: OU, UT, Nebraska second tier: A&M, CU everyone else blah blah blah
i'm not sure you can judge it that way. you're talking about the teams as they exist right now....not the programs.
Would you consider VT a first tier program in the ACC? A&M reminds me of VT without the recent success. If VT can get there so can A&M.
