FFB, you can write some of these chumps off as posers that want to listen to the most obscure artists they can find, just because they think that makes them musically enlightened. Then the posers brag about these artists they listen to and try to say the rest of us are sheep to the music industry for listening to the artists that get airplay on the radio. There's a good reason people haven't heard of the artists the posers listen to, it's because those artists suck. They may have a different sound on every song but all those sounds blow donkey balls. .
LOL, even though there music sucks we should like them because they are cute? nobody's talking about whether or not they are good humanoids. their music represents the least common denominator, that is why it's popular. some people strive for more.
And some people have an inferiority complex that causes them to pick a subjective issue like musical tastes to proclaim their personal taste makes them the enlightened one over the masses. It's an easy way to make you feel better about you. Some people go for the goth look to be different from the masses and others listen to obscure music. Knock yourself out, the rest of us don't give a damn what artist you "discovered" while chatting at a 3rd rate artsy fartsy coffee shop or while listening to some underground radio station. At the end of the day, the music you like is just something to listen to so that you can take your mind off your daily life or just simply provide you with a few grins. It's not some sort of badge you wear to claim superiority. I don't care if people listen to J Lo because they want to fantasize about tapping that big azz of hers. If that's what they want to do, have at it.
That doesn't change the fact that Nickelback are a bunch of assclowns. And for the record, Fatty, I just didn't "jump on the bandwagon" in bashing Nickelback. I can honestly say that I have ever never liked them. So, sorry to disappoint your high expectations of me but I'll defend the bands or artists that have talent even ones like AC/DC (because they are a damn good band). Nickelback doesn't get any love from me and especially not because you think they are any good.
As an analogy, I would compare Nickelback to Adam Sandler movies. It gets the job done and a lot of people enjoy them. It's not the greatest music in the world, but so what?
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. The reason why many people haven't heard groups like Interpol or Bloc Party or Sigur Ros or even Radiohead on the radio is because groups like those don't compromise their sound so they can sound more "commercial". All radio is about these days is finding artists that look good and are mindless to listen to. Any band or artist that don't fit the mold (physically) or has music that actually challenges the listener won't be found on mainstream radio. But somehow I can see this same argument occuring 30 years ago with a fan of The Starland Vocal Band or even worse, some disco group like the Hues Corporation railing against a fan of The Ramones. Starland Vocal Band/Hues Corporation fan is trying to tell the Ramones fan how good their group is and that because Ramones aren't heard on mainstream radio that Ramones must "suck". Guess what - does anyone even buy anything by the Starland Vocal Band or Hues Corporation today? I can guarandamntee you that people today are still buying albums by the Ramones. But if you and Fatty want to keep listening to the cookie cutter BS and generic crap that is on the radio, go right ahead. Just don't be surprised (like you are acting now) that other people want more out of their music. And to get it, you have to go somewhere else than the radio.
Well they are if you want to go to a "classic rock" station but the radio stations that Fatty and Ill must listen to are your pop ones (which is what I was calling mainstream).
And if you want to keep on thinking you are fighting some noble cause then have at that. People like what they like. And most people don't have to get something out of music. Go find your music and make yourself happy, who cares anyway? The rest of us don't need to listen to your dribble about having better musical tastes.
I listen to everything. Cookie cutter BS? Puleeze. This coming from the same guy that had, by your own admittance, ZERO music knowledge until a few years ago. You took it and ran with it. Much like I did in my college days. Sorry you were a late bloomer in that regard. These days, I spend 90% of my time listening to talk radio. When I go out with my friends, I listen to whatever is playing, be that at someone's house, at a club, etc. Occasionally I'll flip through my own radio stations. If I hear something I like, I'll listen to it. End of story. And, as you are quite aware, I have never given a rat's ass about what people think about my musical tastes.
Dribble?? You mean like bouncing a ball up and down?? I think you mean drivel. I think it's cute that you are trying to respond to the discussion by using atypical words that you would find on the BBS, but it would help if you spelled them correctly. Sorta defeats your argument when you can't even use certain words properly. And for the record, I agree that people like what they like. And if some people don't get out of music what I get then it doesn't bother me. Lord knows that I have enough to worry about without worrying if some guy on the BBS who goes by the handle, "Ill-Skillz" likes the same people I like or enjoys music as much as I do. I only responded to your post because you insinuated that bands and artists which aren't heard on the radio is due to the fact that they "suck". I rebutted your argument and your response is really nothing more than signifying sound and fury and nothing else. Oh, and all of this still doesn't change the fact that Nickelback are assclowns.
Fatty, you ever listen to Miles Davis or Horace Silver?? So you are telling me that you also like listening to Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto when you aren't banging your head to AC/DC?? Or are you telling us that you enjoy listening to Enya while taking bubble baths and getting a much deserved break from your Nickelback? A few years has grown to be 7 years to be exact. But yes Fatty you are right, before 2000, I basically listened to R&B music and pop music like Celine Dion. I was like so many other Nickelback fans in that I thought that was all music was - what was being forced down our throats by the mainstream. Thankfully, I learned that there so much other stuff out there. You just have to be patient and be willing to venture out a little bit. At one time, I probably was very snobby with regards to musical tastes. However, I did realize that there are some people who are trainwrecks no matter what when it comes to music tastes (sorta like you and that guy "Aceshigh7"). Plus it is all subjective anyway. I just like talking about it and getting someone like you worked up just like you like to constantly troll music threads. It is probably the only time in my life that I act like "Fatty FatBastard". Talk radio is cool but I would find it boring after awhile. Different strokes for different folks. I do the same thing with the radio but I basically keep it between the Jack radio station and the classic rock one in Nashville. Oh and I know that you don't give a rat's ass about what people think about your musical tastes. Hell, Fatty you don't give a rat's ass about what people think about you in any regards - thus the reason for the many drunk threads and the angst-filled ones involving chicks.
i just want to go on record as saying that i take no pleasure in my awesome music taste, in fact it's a burden, but a burden that i'm willing to shoulder for the betterment of humanity.
My musical preferences are beyond question. Everyone with more popular tastes are dull-witted sheep. Everyone with more obscure tastes are pretentious twits. That is all.
It defeats your argument when all you have is a typo to come back at me with. It also doesn't change the fact that you're an insecure snobbish ass who thinks he knows everything about music. Music is maybe less than 1% of my daily life, I don't need music to survive the day. I know all about bands that don't get heard on the radio. I was in the road crew of 3 different local bands when I was younger. One of them was a jazz rock group that was talented but never took off. Because not enough people want to listen to jazz rock. If you choose to play music that the majority of the public thinks sucks then don't whine when you don't get airplay. It's a business.
