Hmm. They almost look like rivets, which you can (carefully) drill out.

If you don't want to try that, print the picture out and take it to Home Depot and ask them.

great feeling. i go to the hardware store, pick up a new lock system, go home, open up the package, turn on the power drill, look down getting ready to take the lock apart, then utter to myself, "WHAT THE ****!?"

Deadbolts like that have master keys that allow you to remove the tumbler which will allow you access to the inside.

If you don't have the master key and don't want to drill it out (which btw is pretty damn hard to do unless you have a hammer drill w/ a carbide bit), call a locksmith and they can remove the tumbler.

If you're renting, you may want to re-read your lease agreement before doing anything like drilling it out.

If you own the house... just buy a whole new door with pre-cut holes for a deadbolt and doorknob.

A pre-hung door would be the best, and you can probably upgrade it, and do it yourself and save money over just having a locksmith come out for the lock alone.

    Just a thought. ;)

    it's not a rental.

if i can drill it, that's what i'll probably do. don't really want to replace the WHOLE door.

i'll do more research on the drilling since codell says it's difficult.

You may be able to gain access from the edge side of the door.

    step 1...center punch it.
    step 2...small bit
    step 3...bigger bit
