I get a newsletter for a private auction company, and one of the current online auctions has a 'Beer Delivery System', starting bid was $250. The auction is one of those bar-style beer taps with six spouts. The description is "1 Beer system, including glycol chiller, pump, lines, taps".

I've always wanted a kegerator, and I figured that this thing would be a steal for $250, so I dropped the minimum bid on it.

Now no one else has bid on it, and I'm close to winning it and don't know what to do. Can someone (Stack?) explain to me exactly how this thing works? What the heck is a glycol chiller, anyway?

    Thanks.

This isn't exactly a kegerator you're buying. Basically, it seems that you are buying a set-up from a closed restaurant/bar. The chiller is to keep the lines between the keg and the tap cold. You will literally need to build yourself a bar for the taps. You'll still need something to store the keg/kegs and keep them cold.

In all honesty, unless you're looking to build yourself some elaborate in-house set-up, don't buy the thing. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Leroy- this is pretty much what I pieced together from reading online. I bid on a whim. Honestly, I didn't think I could win..but it's too late now. I'll probably craigslist/ebay it to recoup my money.

OTOH, I am a big-project kind of guy, so building an elaborate setup sounds kind of fun. I have other projects right now, though, and I get the feeling that if I try to shelve this stuff for a year it will go bad.
