After awhile, the numbers become so stunning that reaction is difficult. Another $190 billion. A third more than projected, not long ago. How many "supplemental funds" have there been? Can anyone really keep track? We can follow the number of American dead, easily enough, because it is reported daily. The number of maimed? Not nearly so easily. The number of Iraqi dead and wounded, both insurgent and civilian? We get "best guesses," and it is not unlikely that they are, if anything, under-reported. Of course we want our people to get the equipment they need. The equipment, in many instances, that they should have had before this escapade of George Bush's even began. And more of our people are there, too late, in my opinion, but not in enough numbers, even so, just as there weren't enough numbers before this ever started. Should anyone really be surprised? I'm not. The only thing certain in war is that things are not going to go strictly according to plan and that there will be unintended consequences. We see those consequences everyday. Pick up a newspaper or read the news online. The dollar becomes weaker and weaker, yet we don't enjoy a trade surplus due to its weakness. Instead, we see a weaker country. A consequence, in large part, of this war. Our military does a superb job, and continues to get funding for this war, yet cannot get adequate funding for a host of things outside of Iraq, like the care they deserve, like the pay they deserve, like the housing their families deserve. Instead of calls for sacrifice, we have gotten tax cuts, during a bloody war. It is really quite depressing. Are we to become exercised because of another $190 billion? We are paying far more than that. Bush is selling the soul of the country. D&D. Impeach Mr. Bankrupting America, Busy Passing on The War to The Next President.
Whats extremely sad is our U.S. troops are given the old sucky sh/t while they let the Iraqi trainee's use our new good sh/t. At least that's what I'm told by everyone I know that has served their time over there.. and they are extremely un-happy about it.
We spent $800B so far for the war. Among those $800B, Blackwater gets $900M. By simple math, Blackwater gets $214M from the $190B.
for $190 billion, you can buy the whole country of Iraq if they can't fight and win, why can't they just buy the iraqis? that will save a lot of bloodshed on both sides.
I love how pro-war folks use the troops to try to get more money (if you don't give us this money, we can't protect the troops and you are against the troops) while anti-war folks use the troops to try to pull out (if you don't give them longer leaves and get them more rest even though it basically means withdrawing forces, you are against the troops). I hate politics.
Hell No !! That money is needed at home, neither Iraq nor Afganastan is worth it...bring our troops home.
seriously, how much money has been spent per Iraqi, these number are staggering. btw, if you are in houston, kbr is having its annual shrareholder meeting in league city. word is the protesters will be out in full force and the league city police department didn't comply with a request to cut down on protesting.
