Sept. 25, 2007, 2:29PM Some Halo 3 disks scratched by packaging By JESSICA MINTZ Associated Press SEATTLE (AP) — Within hours after die-hard fans finally got their hands on a copy of Halo 3, blogs brimmed with reports that special limited-edition packaging is scratching the video game disks. Microsoft Corp., which owns the studio that makes Halo 3, responded quickly on its Xbox Web site with details for a replacement program. Customers can fill out a form and send in their scratched limited-edition disks for a free exchange through the end of December. A Microsoft spokesman and a member of the company's outside PR firm did not immediately respond to calls and e-mails from The Associated Press requesting more information. Microsoft is selling the limited-edition version, which comes in a tin decorated with the Halo 3 logo, for $70. A regular copy of the game costs $60, and a "legendary" version, which comes with a replica of the helmet worn by game protagonist Master Chief, costs $130. The game officially went on sale early Tuesday. Richard Mitchell, the lead writer of the Xbox 360 Fanboy blog, said one of the disks that came in his limited-edition set is scratched but the damage didn't seem to interfere with its playing. The AP received several review copies of Halo 3 in limited-edition tins. Both the game disk and an "essentials" disk had come loose from plastic housing designed to keep them in place. The game disk had been scratched but seemed to work fine. Microsoft has been plagued by Xbox 360 problems in recent months. In July, the software maker said it would spend more than $1 billion to repair broken Xbox 360 consoles, and in August it disclosed that some Wireless Racing Wheel game controllers were overheating and smoking. Since its launch, the Xbox 360 has outsold Sony Corp.'s next-generation PlayStation 3 console, but it hasn't been as popular as Nintendo Corp.'s Wii. Investors and analysts are watching whether Microsoft can turn a profit in the division that makes the Xbox 360. Microsoft, which expects to hit that milestone in the current fiscal year, has said Halo 3 is one part of its strategy for reaching that goal.
Oh man, mine too. God forbid he has any homework today, because no matter what it is, it will probably read like: 2 + 2 = 4HALO HALO HALO I swear, I remember getting excited about video games when I was his age, but the shear tunnel vision he has for this game blows my mind. It is literally ALL he talks about.
i was surprised there were not more at the pre-order at the gamecrazy i went to. figured there would be more. theres work needed to be done, yet it prob wont get done
When I was getting my copy today, a dude was raising hell because he said his copy was scratched....once he got to level 2, it stopped. If you are picking yours up, open it right there and make sure its clean.
i want it so badly but i have a wii (cant wait til smash bros though) im prolly gonna get a 360 after spring break for 2k8 and halo 3. til then metroid and smash bros gotta keep me busy. and of course my friends xbox
Regarding the graphics debate... IMO, the graphics in Halo 3 are OK, but not really the best on the 360 (and certainly not the best overall). I might have expected a little more given the budget and hard work that went into the game, but it does look a lot better than what I was expecting based on the initial screens released a while back. I was really worried back then. I'd say the visuals in BioShock and Gears are definitely better, and I probably nitpick on the visuals in those two games more than the average person (EX:lack of polys in both games bothers me, especially given the scale in each). DiRT might be up there too, although it is hard to compare the two since they're so different. Won't really get into listing games that look better than all the previously mentioned games (including Gears) available on the PS3 and PC, although Halo 3 certainly doesn't come close to matching Crysis IMO...not that it should since I think only a few console games can. I admit that I'm basing some/most of this off of videos, but they've rarely deceived me before.
Just picked up my copy after work... I got the Limited Edition and the discs did indeed come loose...luckily it doesn't look like they were scratched...the manager at gamestop though said the "loose" noise I heard was from the booklet...should've known better as that's happened to me before. In any case can't wait to play it tonight... On a sidenote...can't believe parents would let their kids play this...don't think I'll allow my son to play an M rated game till middle school or so. Sure Halo is fantasy violence, but it's still pretty bloody and mature. Besides...my son will have play and appreciate the old school games first before he can even think to touch dad's next gen systems
Just played around for about 45 min...sweating bullets...that **** is crazy fun! By the way, some of the people I played against are ridiculous. Got my a$$ handed to me, over and over.
it's true, the graphics in Halo 3 is certainly not a 10 by any means. I'd give it like a 8 or 8.5 at the most Bioshock looks a lot better, and Gears of War too. although compared to Gears, for 'overall' look, I like Halo 3 better...because 90+% of Gears was gray-colored, it just wasn't varied environment-wise. Bioshock though is way better looking no matter what, compared to Halo 3 having said that, Halo 3's MP is freakin' awesome...10x better than Gears of War
Bwahaha... Sam Fisher taps out. Hopefully all the pre-order folks will get theirs without too much problem. All I did was walk into a Best Buy where they had a ton of 'em and buy it. Don't succumb to these knucklehead game companies and game stores doing their "pre-orders"... it's stupid.
I preordered from Best Buy online because they had the glitch where you could get 3 of the 1600 marketplace cards for $15 total (promo was supposed to be 1 card for $5). Great deal but I dread going in to pick it up because I know it will take longer than just grabbing one off the shelf and going to the normal checkout line.
Yeah, the gamestop here in Boston had more than enough copies for anyone that just wanted to show up and buy. One of my friends pre-ordered online and didnt get his today. Feel kinda bad since he was anticipating it more than I was...and now Im playing.
just got my copy from best buy, i'm going to play the campaign first, anyone want to join me on live, post in here. gamertag - texmark
