"Do you want to see the blues? Well take a look at me!" - Joe "Guitar" Hughes

The mighty H-Town Jukes will be jukin' the old-school Houston style blues at two, count 'em, two gigs later this week.....

Thursday 9/27 - we will be hosting the Houston Blues Society jam at the Big Easy, 5731 Kirby, in West U. We will be playing a one hour set from 9:30-10:30 before opening the stage to the jammers. If you play, bring your axe, put your name on the list, and we will get you up onstage!

Friday 9/28 - we will be playing at the Nutty Bar, Scarsdale @ Beamer, on the southeast side of town. We begin at 9:30 PM and we'll be playing until last call for alcohol.

No cover at the Big Easy...might be a cover at the Nutty Bar.

Thank you for your support! Hope to see you at the gigs!!

The Big Easy is close to my house. I have a tentative business dinner/drinks, but if I don't have to go then I am there for sure

I can't make either, unfortunately. If you've never seen Tex and the band, I highly recommend them! Great stuff.

Then you'd better not go, homie. If we played either onstage at the Big Easy, we'd get shot. No spandex either. :D

I'd be there - Rickenbacker in hand - if I could make it... but I'll be taking a nice two week vacation though at the end of the week - London and Italy...

I live close to there, and I get out of class right before your set. I'll try to make it there. If the music is good, I might even buy you a beer Tex.

I wrote a song for you, Tex...It's about those rough two days the BBS was down.

I'm sittin' here at my computer
My face has a big ole' frown
    I don't know what I'm gonna do
    The clutchfans BBS is down

I know I should be workin'
My mind can't stay on track
    I'm just clickin' and reloadin'
My boss is on my back

I got the clutchfans withdrawl blues
    The clutchfans withdrawl blues
This p*rn is OK, at least part of the day
But I got the clutchfans withdrawl blues

I need my Rockets news and updates
    Has Rafer been traded yet?
My right index finger is twitching
My palms are covered in sweat

The Hangout is nice and cozy
Hey what's in your CD player?
My head is starting to throb
Get me another bottle of Bayer

I got the clutchfans withdrawl blues
    The clutchfans withdrawl blue
This p*rn is OK, at least part of the day
I got the clutchfans withdrawl blues

hmmm... been to the big easy a few times and all those few times that i was there, jeremiah johnson (sp?) was playing. cool guy. not sure if he's still doing gigs there.

anyway, you mentioned the houston blues society. do you know someone by the name of don d (i'll email you the last name)? he's a diehard blues fan and won some kinda award with the houston blues society a little while ago. best friend. always active in the local blues community and has backyard concerts every so often in third ward.

Email me the last name. I might know him, and regardless I'd love to speak with him about booking us for one of his backyard concerts. You can shoot me an email through this BBS. I've known Jeremiah for years. He still plays the Big Easy every Tuesday. C'mon out tomorrow night!

oh man... i'll retype without the last name. i know for a fact jeremiah knows him on a first name basis because he played at one of don's backyard concerts in third ward a couple of months ago (didn't make it out to that one, but have been to several others). relatively small backyard, but the folks that do show up end up having a good time.

he's always been into the blues scene here in houston and contribs to the society on a reg basis. as a matter of fact, he's been trying to put together a blues festival for some time now. the website is here. met up with him last sunday and things are way up in the air right now and things may not be going according to plans. :(

anyhow, i'll give him a call and see if he can make it out to see you tomorrow night so that y'all can talk or something. i get off of work at 11pm and y'all will have been off stage way before then. get off of work friday again at 11pm, so will see if i can make it out for that one since y'all are going 'til last call.

tigercranestyle@gmail.com is my email addy. i've only seen you once before and we chatted for maybe 20 seconds or so after that yao movie, but i still don't know your name. just email me your name and some sort of contact info and i'll see what i can get going if you're really interested in playing over there in third ward. i'd hate to introduce you to him as rocketman tex. :)

edit: just called don and he was already planning on being there.

RMTex, is this a weekly open mic thing you guys do or just a one time thing? Like we've discussed before, I'd really like to get out there more often and play something different than just the music my band plays, but weeknights are tough and I have dinner plans Thursday night.

I like your website, btw. Is it new? I've tried googling you guys in the past but never found anything.

Ima....this is the Houston Blues Society jam that is held the last Thursday of every month at the Big Easy. HBS has a different local blues band host it each time, and the host band plays an hour set before the jam begins. Yep, the website & myspace page are new...now trying to set up some studio time for December so we can finally record a CD.
