Hey where did you get your ps3? The best deal I've heard so far is the $499 with 5 Blu-ray movies offered at CC.com.. I'm contemplating this but I heard rumors of a $399 40gb model coming out by Christmas? I dont know how true this is if RC Cola can help me out here .
I got mine through Amazon. Free shipping and NO tax. Can't beat it. Type PS3 deals in Google and you find it also
hmm debating taking back my I-touch for a Xbox 360 core...just because I hearing good things about Halo 3....but I just cant see when looking at videos how it is better than Warhawk or Resistance to me....iono..guess I will see if I get the system.
people enjoy the multiplayer aspect of halo . that's why its so popular. its very competitive, like the madden series.
in that case, its not worth getting to me....I enjoy all my ps3 games just fine....nothing like fighting 30 ppl and coming out on top.
That's what I did. Kinda sucks I didn't get the free Blu Ray deal, but I probably would have never watched those movies anyway.
I've seen a few people have problems with their PS3s, although not too many (plus some were able to fix it by holding down the power button for 10 seconds, as already mentioned). I think I read the defect rate is less than 1%, although I don't know if certain SKUs or models are better/worse in that category. There are strong rumors about it, although nothing solid. Even if it was confirmed and had a date, we still don't have all the specs. Chances are that it might be gimped in some aspect(s), which may or may not be a big deal. BTW, did you get my email reply? I sent it via the BBS on the day it went down (my email was giving me some issues at the time). Hopefully it didn't get lost in all the craziness. I can post some of my thoughts in this thread if you didn't receive it.
Sorry bro, I didn't get it . I was having trouble with my bbs 'pm' option and assumed it never went through =/. I heard the rumored 40gb ps3 wouldnt have the backwards capability(?) removed and you wouldn't be able to play ps2 games on it? Something like that. If that is the case I don't think it'd be a big deal for me as long as everything else is the same. That deal on Amazon sounds pretty sweet. However I'm skeptical about the rebate blu-rays. I'm wondering how legit it is and if I'd be di*ked over in some way. (sending me the wrong movies etc. etc). Oh well, I'm still not ready to pull the trigger so any help from you or anyone else would be great .
Yeah, if Sony puts out a 40GB SKU this year at $399, it is likely that BC will take a hit. However, despite what some of the reports going around are saying, I think it will still have BC with PS2 games, just much more limited. Basically, they have some extra hardware in the PS3s right now that helps the PS3 play PS2 games, and if they wanted to cut costs to offer the PS3 at a cheaper price, they would probably ditch that hardware since it is somewhat expensive. They can still have the PS3 emulate the PS2 purely by software, which they were planning on doing eventually anyway, but it most likely won't result in a large % of PS2 games being compatible with the PS3. That's been the only major difference I've heard from the rumors, along with the removal of some USB ports and memory card ports (not really a big deal). BTW, not sure if you read this already, but I mention some of the more concrete information we have about a possible new SKU earlier in the thread (page 2 IIRC...basically, a new model is definitely in the works, just don't know if it is a new SKU or just a tweak of the existing design) The Blu-ray promotion is legit AFAIK. I'm assuming people here have used it, so maybe they can help you there (although they may still be waiting on their movies). I'll go ahead and post here what I had intended to email you on Saturday (might be better since more people can read it and respond to it, if needed):
So are there any games that are actually coming out soon? I was looking for Stranglehold to come out last week and I've been told it's been pushed back until Oct. 30th.
Skate was also released today for the PS3 I think, which might be a good game if you like skateboarding games, especially if you're tired of Tony Hawk...check out the demo first though. The new Tony Hawk game comes out in October as well. Other than that, there is also Folklore (niche action/adventure RPG game...I enjoyed the demo), Sega Rally Revo, Ratchet & Clank, Eye of Judgment (card battling game like Magic I guess, bundled with the new Eyetoy for $70 IIRC), Guitar Hero 3, The Simpsons Game, and NFS Prostreet coming out in October, just to name a few. Of course, all dates are tentative (see Stranglehold as an example of what this can mean, especially for PS3 games). I should hopefully have a thread about those games before next Tuesday.
oh yeah, Ratchet and Clank is really the next big blockbuster game for the PS3 to come out soon. it should be excellent and top-notch the other games in RC's list though, I would consider them to be either niche type games, or multi-platform ones
new sku...cheaper ps3 coming. link Having just denied the existence of a low cost, entry level PS3, we weren't expecting to find a new PS3 model from Sony parked in the FCC exhibits list this morning. That's right, a new PlayStation 3 model CECHG01 was just unearthed. The juiciest of documents are all withheld upon Sony's request for confidentiality. However, we did manage to scrape up a few details: Bluetooth 2.0+EDR; 802.11b/g WiFi; a 3.2GHz CPU clock speed just like other PS3s; 66MHz ATA, 133MHz ATA, 33MHz PCI and 750MHz SATA1; and a bevy of ports including USB, HDMI, and Ethernet. At least that what it looks like after combing through the data. Nothing new, eh? So the reason for the new model number is likely the result of a hard disk change given Sony's preference for unique models reflecting changes in storage. However, for all we know that could be an increase and not a decrease in capacity so we'll all have to hold tight for now and watch this unfold.
