I predict that within the next 18 months 790 will die off and hopefully Pallilo goes to either 610 or 1560.
I agree Pallilo is the man in Local Sport talk. Lopez pisses me off especially when he keeps trying to emphasize his "ghetto" side and about growing up on the streets. Enough already. Also the whole "So tell us monsters, call in monsters, what do you think monsters is annoying as hell. I hate that time of the day and Rome doesn't do anything for me unless he is interviewing someone on a Houston Sports Team. 1560 is interesting in the mornings but the signal does suck. Final rant: Any credibility that 790 builds and enjoyment I get from it immediately gets flushed down the toilet as soon as I hear a gay ass "Real sports animal genius" commercial. Its easily the worst parody ever created in the history of the universe and buchers the hilarious bud light commercials. I hope the marketing geniuses behind those r****ded commercials get fired and suck at life. Those commercials single handedly make me want to call up some blood sucking lawyer to sue 790 for deficating in my eardrums.
I would agree with that...I liked him a lot on Channel 2 a long time ago. Now, it seems like he constantly feels the need to stick a little joke in every 2 seconds. Brad Davies just sounds too much like Marge Simpson. Lopez sounds like a guy who got picked on A LOT growing up and now he's desperately trying to be cool. I do miss Lance and John, but when I listen to 1560 in the morning, Grenato sounds like he's talking to you on the phone and REALLY not enjoying the conversation.
did listening today drive you to create this thread because i almost wanted to this afternoon. lopez is just flat out terrible and like jeff said, his big problem is that he's just so wrong all the time. he is unflappable in his wrongness which makes it even more annoying. listeners can't argue with him and he calls you an idiot if you disagree. i guess i'm an idiot. i flipped to rome because i couldn't remember any of the other sports stations.
my family member in the radio business thinks they'll be the first to go. that someone has to go in this market, and that clear channel won't put up with a station that isn't making some strides in that segment. he thinks the other channels will crowd out 790. just an opinion...i don't think he knows anything specifically about it.
I don't mind Lopez and I like having 790 as an alternative. The worst hour on radio is Jeremy on 610 after another bad show, Ware and Vandermere. I'll listen to some of 790 in the morning for Roberts and his knowledge of the history of Houston sports. In the afternoons I'll switch back and forth between Palilo and Jackson/Lord depending on the topic. Both have their good and bad issues. I never listen to ESPN 97.5 because their signal sucks worse than 1560, imo.
their adamant position yesterday that a&m is a hands down top 10 college football program was about the worst sports radio i've ever heard in my life.
yeah, i remember actually looking forward to charlie and rich (was that 610 or 740?) after basketball practice years ago. although i really dont mind charlie going at it solo.... unless you can find a perfect co-host, any other 790 clown would just get in the way. ps - deluca's "quagmire" nickname/persona is just about the stupidest thing in the world.
i didn't hear that when it happened...but there were some callers who called in later that day on charlie's show to talk about it and to ask what the hell they were thinking. what a joke.
Most people I talk to say they'll be surprised if 1560 makes it more than 18 months. A significant piece of this puzzle will be when any of the major sports franchises come up for renewal.
