People would want ransom because of his offensive abilities. Im fine with the club having both him and everett, they offer different things for the team. Towles is freaking clutch by the way. You put someone on second, that skinny kid is gonna score him. I hope him and ausmus are here next year to provide a similar combo to what everett and ransom would provide. If you have a better idea of who could be our shortstop next year, i'd like to hear it. You might as well give ransom a chance, because the same people who said he's a AAAA player might be the same people who said we have no talent in our minor leagues. The lineup we trotted out today is the one we should put out next year, it actually produces runs regardless of how little berkman and lee produce (because they seem to disappear at the same time for some reason).
ransom's offense isn't enough to cover his defense to play him over everett. of course this is my opinion
I agree. And I don't care what anyone says about Springer. He was solid this year, and we could've used him.
We could have used Springer, sure... But he wouldn't have helped us that much. Ransom still has some work to do. I wonder though... can he play 2nd base? Or perhaps he can spend next year working on 3rd base?
Ransom will be 32 when spring training rolls around next year. If you think he still has some work to do, then he will never be a starting major league player.
Honestly i dont care if ransom starts. We can afford to have both him and adam everett. I just want the astros to improve their offense without going after a big name free agent so we can focus solely on pitching. Pitching is what we need desperately.
He allowed 11 hits but only 2 runs. He did a heck of a job allowing 0 runs w/ bases loaded & no outs in the 1st. In the end, it's the number of runs you allow that matters.
By the way, I'll take my lumps and take my crow here on Lidge's Sunday performance... that was embarrassing. I'm not sure what to make of it. It's certainly not mental; the pitch to Ankiel was out of the zone and wasn't a "mistake" pitch; it just got hit. But when you say that a lot of times (as I and others have about Lidge the last two months), you have to wonder if for whatever reason his stuff just isn't good enough. I'm hoping it's injury-related, because he's pitching on a knee that he's having surgery on after the season and limps around with a huge bag of ice before every game. (On that note, why not let him have his surgery now? Not like there's anything left to make of this season.) But if he's hurt to the point where it's impacting his delivery and performance, it's his duty to speak up. Whatever the reason, it was a terrible performance and I'll eat my crow and let the naysayers have their day. Hopefully getting healthy can revert him to the form he had for most of this season (until the last week), but we'll see.
